The 6th edition of International Day of Yoga was celebrated by the Embassy of India in Manila on 21st June 2020 enthusiastically. Given the prevailing situation of global pandemic COVID-19, this year’s celebrations were unique. This year’s Yoga Day theme was “Yoga reception and Yoga with family”.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Embassy of India in Manila together with the National Youth Commission of the Philippines and the Indian Cultural Association of the Philippines organized a televised online event on Facebook and other digital platforms. The web event started with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi’s message, the Indian Embassy’s diplomat, Ms. Manisha Swami’s message to the general public highlighting the importance of Yoga and International Yoga day.
This was followed by the common yoga protocol session led by Chandru Mahtani, Yoga instructor within the Philippines. The event was also supported by Art of Living Foundation, Philippines. The web event saw a big number of viewing and shares on the Embassy of India’s Facebook page.
The Embassy also organized a photograph competition themed “Let’s yoga for a healthy Pilipinas” to commemorate the International Yoga day.
Yoga remains the 5000 years old ancient scientific tradition of India which aims to unite mind, body, and soul. Yoga isn’t just a group of exercises to stay the body fit, but it’s a holistic fitness and well-being. Because the world battles worldwide pandemic, yoga, and its practice could also be useful for maintaining physical and mental well-being. Yoga indeed has become the necessity of the hour.
