Embracing Gender Equality and Inclusivity, AirAsia Philippines has organized an all-female flight to mark the beginning of National Women’s Month and to commemorate International Women’s Day.
With over 700 female Allstars, comprising 37% of the entire AirAsia Philippines workforce, the invaluable contributions of women to the airline’s daily operations cannot be overlooked.
“Gone are the days when women were confined to gender-biased roles. Today, you’ll find them diligently performing tasks as flight engineers, mechanics, ramp agents, and marshallers, never hesitating despite facing challenging conditions,” shares AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla.
Flights Z2-223, Z2-224, Z2-420, and Z2-421 were under the command of Captain Jasmin Timola and First Officer Nicolette Trisha Castaneda, both of whom chose to pursue their careers while being devoted full-time mothers. Senior Cabin Crew Mhea Salvador, along with Cabin Crew Thalia Javier, Demii Marvick Fernando, and Jamessy Lee Asok, warmly welcomed guests on their way to weekend getaways in Boracay and Bohol. The all-female flight aims to inspire guests to pursue their aspirations and demonstrates that women can excel in traditionally male-dominated industries.
“A first-time flyer need not fear their flight, knowing that those in command—pilots and cabin crew alike—will always prioritize safety and uphold their expertise through constant training and updates,” adds Mr. Isla.
In a gesture to honor resilient and hardworking women, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline has also designated two “All Women (check-in) Lanes” at NAIA Terminal 2, adding a special touch to the celebration.
In alignment with the Philippine Commission on Women’s mission to promote women’s empowerment, a special Women’s Day PAA-Talk session titled “Women make it work: Driving Inclusivity and Championing Equality in the workplace” was held at AirAsia’s Red Point headquarters. This internal talk series highlighted the airline’s significant role in empowering female Allstars within the workplace, fostering discussion and reflection on the topic.
Atty. Khay Ann Magundayao-Borlado, Officer-in-Charge of PCW, commended AirAsia Philippines for its support of the Women’s Day celebration.
“AirAsia’s initiative to organize an all-female flight to Boracay and Palawan not only showcases the capabilities and contributions of women in aviation but also serves as an inspiration for young women and girls, proving that they can excel in traditionally male-dominated career paths.
Considering the myriad roles that women undertake daily—balancing responsibilities at home, work, business, and within their communities—AirAsia’s dedication to establishing ‘All Women Lanes’ is a fitting and symbolic gesture. It offers a means to alleviate their multiple burdens and recognize their invaluable contributions to society, even if only for a day.
This gesture not only celebrates International Women’s Day but also underscores the importance of inclusivity across all sectors. #WEcanbeEquALL,” shares Atty. Magundayao-Borlado.
