Debuted at MWC 2024, the latest HONOR features leverage hardware-level AI to relieve myopia and circumvent scams
During its keynote at MWC Shanghai 2024, titled “The Human-AI Synergy: Intelligent Devices Will Empower People Better” global technology brand HONOR unveiled two cutting-edge on-device AI innovations designed to enhance user safety and empowerment. These innovations, AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection, mark significant advancements in human-centric AI. HONOR reiterated its commitment to human-centric on-device AI, emphasizing the potential of AI-enabled hardware to deliver personalized services while safeguarding user privacy.
Evolving Eye Protection Technology from Prevention to Relief
Introducing the latest in eye-protection technology, HONOR unveiled AI Defocus Eye Protection at MWC Shanghai. Recognizing the global rise in nearsightedness due to prolonged screen use, this technology utilizes AI to simulate defocus glasses directly on the smart device’s display.
Defocus glasses are known to promote eye health by intentionally inducing controlled defocus in the peripheral visual field, helping to maintain clear central vision. This approach alters visual perception, slowing down the process of eye elongation that leads to nearsightedness. Transitioning from eye protection to technology that offers potential relief for consumers, HONOR’s AI Defocus Eye Protection has been shown to reduce users’ transient myopia by an average of 13 degrees after 25 minutes of reading, with some experiencing up to a 75-degree reduction.
Mitigating Fraud with AI Deepfake Detection
To address the risks posed by cloud-based “deepfake” AI technology, HONOR has launched AI Deepfake Detection. This innovative tool aims to combat fraud and identify digitally manipulated content by meticulously analyzing frame-by-frame details such as eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback. These analyses uncover imperceptible flaws that evade human detection.
Furthermore, AI Deepfake Detection has been trained using a vast dataset of videos and images associated with online scams. This enables the AI to swiftly identify, screen, and compare content within three seconds. Upon detecting synthetic or altered content, the feature promptly issues a risk warning to the user, discouraging further interaction with potential scammers for their safety.
