Rev up for a heart-pounding ride in this critically acclaimed series blending action and raw emotion.
With Lionsgate Play, Filipino viewers can now experience a wide range of global stories from the comfort of their homes. One of the platform’s latest releases, Spinners, takes audiences into the harsh streets of Cape Town, where local gangs dominate the landscape.
The story follows 17-year-old Ethan (played by Cantona James), a young man trapped in a life he never wanted. Despite being a good-hearted kid, he’s forced to work for a gang to provide for himself and his younger brother. Amidst this grim reality, Ethan discovers his natural talent for spinning—an intense motorsport that’s both thrilling and dangerous. But will his skills behind the wheel be enough to steer him away from gang life, or will the streets claim him before he can escape?
Spinners goes beyond the high-octane races, offering a compelling reflection on poverty, privilege, and the resilience of the human spirit. Notably, Spinners is the first African series to compete at Canneseries, receiving critical acclaim and awards for its gripping action, raw emotions, and standout performances. Now, with all eight episodes available on Lionsgate Play, viewers can join Ethan and his crew as they push the boundaries of their world.
In an interview with GQ South Africa, lead actor Cantona James shared the intense experience of filming in Cape Flats: “We used the word ‘cathartic’ a lot on set because we were surrounded by the story we’re telling. There were kids, some as young as 10, not in school, working, and involved in selling drugs. I’m telling a fictional story, but these kids are living that life. It brought a sense of responsibility to what we were doing, knowing who we were representing.”
Get ready for a wild ride—Spinners premieres on Lionsgate Play on September 27. Buckle up and don’t miss this thrilling and emotional journey.
