“Here Comes The Groom” is a comedy film that tackles important issues of equality and diversity through a cast of LGBTQIA+++ characters. While the film has its moments of laughter and great performances, it also falls short of its potential.
The character switch-ups between Maris and Awra are executed well, and Gladys Reyes’ comedic timing is impressive. Keempee de Leon and Xilhouete deliver excellent portrayals of gay characters, while Kaladkaren charms as a man. Enchong Dee’s departure from his usual roles is a welcome change.
Aside from the comedic moments, “Here Comes the Groom” also tackled some deeper themes such as love, family, and the importance of forgiveness. The characters had their own personal struggles and conflicts, which added some depth to the story.
However, some of the characters’ movements and personalities are noticeably different after the switch, which can be jarring for fans of the original film. Additionally, while the film’s message of equality is admirable, the humor could have been more outrageous to match its larger purpose.
Despite its flaws, “Here Comes The Groom” deserves recognition for using its platform to promote equality and diversity. The film’s ensemble cast is undoubtedly talented, and director Chris Martinez’s vision is apparent throughout. “Here Comes The Groom” is worth watching for its positive message and comedic performances, even if it falls short of its full potential.
