Exchange a cucumber for a delectable Hendrick’s & Tonic
In a groundbreaking move that will shake up financial markets worldwide, Hendrick’s Gin is elevating the value of the cucumber by transforming this humble green fruit into a tradable currency. This unique initiative celebrates World Cucumber Day on June 14, allowing individuals to exchange cucumbers for a refreshing Hendrick’s & Tonic.
Hendrick’s Gin has always held the cucumber in the highest esteem. Its distinctive distillation process involves infusing rose and cucumber, resulting in an exceptionally smooth gin that combines lightness and complexity. The perfect finishing touch to a Hendrick’s cocktail is a garnish of fresh green cucumber, complementing the gin’s wonderfully unusual flavor.
World Cucumber Day is an annual celebration where Hendrick’s Gin showcases the remarkable fruit by infusing delightful peculiarity into everyday universal elements, encouraging people to embrace and nurture their own uniqueness.
Following the success of the 2019 campaign that exchanged the green of cash for the green of a cucumber, Hendrick’s Gin has partnered with 38 bars, including Bar 55, Lampara, Bar Flora, After Hours, Salt and Ice (Molito and BGC), Oto, Curator, Run Rabbit Run, Japonesa, West 32, Agimat, Distillery, Hola Bombón, Southbank (Estancia and Alabang), Brick and Mortar, Burnt Bean, Craft BGC, Fauna, St. Louis, LIT, LAB, Katsu, Scarlet, Draft (Molito, BGC, Rockwell), Maillard, Silong, Spritz, Keepers Bar, Hola Eat Drink & Play, RM16, Kona PH, Vault, Bar by East, and Seven, to facilitate these unconventional transactions. During a dedicated ‘Cucumber Hour,’ these participating bars will accept genuine cucumbers of any variety as currency, or “bar tender,” in exchange for a refreshing Hendrick’s & Tonic.
Charmaine Thio, Hendrick’s Southeast Asia Ambassador, shares, “After a well-received trial in 2019, where we transformed the beloved cucumber into a currency, we are once again inviting inquisitive individuals to exchange this unconventional green fruit for the most peculiar libation, a Hendrick’s & Tonic.”
She adds, “There is simply no better way to garnish a Hendrick’s cocktail than with a slice of cucumber from the very fruit that imparts its delightfully unusual flavor. Whether it’s a classic slice, peculiar spears, a bold wedge, or an uncommonly shaped piece, the cucumber offers endless opportunities for creative experimentation in both form and size, pleasing both the eye and the palate. We welcome those with a shared disposition to join us in embracing the wondrous possibilities that World Cucumber Day has to offer.”
The ‘Cucumber Hour’ will take place from 5 to 11 pm on Wednesday, June 14.
