GROHE SPA Reveals “Aquatecture” Spaces: Where Water Meets Architecture at Milan Design Week

Throughout the annals of history, the intricate interplay between nature and culture has left an indelible mark on art, fashion, and architecture. Milan Design Week, with its thematic focus on “Materia Natura,” aims to delve into the manifold ways in which nature serves as a boundless source of inspiration. Embracing this theme, GROHE SPA, the premium sub-brand of GROHE renowned for complete bathroom solutions and kitchen fittings, finds an ideal platform at the world’s largest annual design event.

Originating from the Latin phrase “Salus per aquam,” meaning health through water, SPA epitomizes the founding principle behind GROHE SPA. At Milan Design Week, held at the majestic Palazzo Reale near the Duomo, GROHE celebrates the transformative essence of water through a meticulously curated installation showcasing new standards of luxury and bespoke quality in bathroom solutions.

A homage to nature and heritage

Centered on the concept of “Aquatecture” — the seamless fusion of water and architecture — the GROHE SPA installation at Palazzo Reale’s courtyard unveils a series of spaces that underscore the pivotal role of water in architecture and its profound impact on health and well-being. Conceived by the in-house LIXIL Global Design and Brand Identity team, the installation pays homage to the palace’s rich history while seamlessly integrating the contemporary ethos of GROHE SPA. Inspired by the former courtyard garden and in harmony with Milan Design Week’s theme of “Materia Natura,” the installation artfully intertwines nature and architecture to create immersive spaces that encapsulate the essence of GROHE SPA. These meticulously crafted spaces evoke the spirit of the former garden, providing sensory realms for reflection, revitalization, and rejuvenation.

Patrick Speck, Leader of LIXIL Global Design EMENA, elaborates, “Through our installation at Palazzo Reale, we seek to illuminate the intricate relationship between nature and human ingenuity, weaving together the storied legacy of the royal palace with the contemporary vision of GROHE SPA. Inviting visitors on a sensory voyage to immerse themselves in ‘Salus per aquam,’ our ‘Aquatecture’ spaces exemplify the profound synergy of water in architecture. Serving not merely as exhibits but as sources of inspiration for architects and designers, they foster collaboration and experimentation.”
