Speaks of value of rest as she reconnects with family, Ka-Globe
After her first professional stint at the 2023 Australian Open, Filipina tennis star and Globe ambassador Alex Eala has returned home to the Philippines for a short break. During her visit, she made time to reconnect with Globe employees and meet with the media at the Globe Tower.
Although Eala is dedicated to her training and competing in high-level tournaments, she also recognizes the importance of rest and relaxation. She feels that it is an essential part of the journey and critical to her improvement as a tennis player.
Eala is thrilled to have the opportunity to spend time with her family and catch up, sharing her success with them. “I’m super happy to have this opportunity and also to connect with BPI, connect back with Globe, just have this opportunity to be with the press and organize my affairs,” she added.
Currently ranked No. 217 on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, the 17-year-old lefty netter aspires to break into the top 200 soon. She plans to compete in more Grand Slam tournaments, including the French Open in May and Wimbledon in July, with the goal of getting her ranking high enough to participate in the WTA circuit.
Although Eala has no specific ranking target for the end of the year, she aims to go as high as possible. Nonetheless, she is taking the time to enjoy her stay in the Philippines, savoring Filipino food, spending time with her cousins, and completing schoolwork.
As she nears the end of her senior year in high school, Eala is also managing her studies. She is enrolled in an online school, finding it easier to balance her schoolwork with her tennis career.
During her visit to the Globe Tower, Eala gamely indulged employees and fans, taking photos and signing autographs. She sees this as an opportunity to give back to the country and be a role model for Filipinos.
After her break, Eala is ready to gear up for another packed year ahead. However, for now, she is happy to be back home. “I think for a tennis player, the goal is really to join the Grand Slam. So those are going to be my goals for this year: to get into as many Grand Slams as I can,” Eala said.
