Globe Issues Warning to Customers About Fraudsters Impersonating NTC Officials

Globe is cautioning its customers about a new vishing, or voice phishing, scam in which fraudsters pose as officials from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

In this scheme, scammers contact potential victims, falsely claiming their phone number has been linked to illegal activities. They then attempt to extort money by threatening arrest if the victim does not comply.

“Criminals exploit our natural respect for authority to deceive and manipulate. This is evident in the latest scam, where fraudsters impersonate NTC officials. We urge our customers to remain vigilant and not fall victim to these tactics,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer.

To protect yourself from vishing scams, here are a few important tips:

  • Be wary of unsolicited calls, especially from numbers you don’t recognize.
  • Do not give out your personal information or financial details over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from a legitimate organization.
  • If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a call, hang up the phone and call the organization directly using a phone number you know is correct.
  • Report suspicious calls to the authorities.

Globe remains dedicated to protecting its customers from scams. The company is actively collaborating with the NTC and law enforcement agencies to crack down on scammers and ensure they are brought to justice. Globe also takes proactive measures by blocking numbers associated with various scams, including vishing.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the NTC and requesting your personal information, do not engage. Hang up immediately and report the call to the NTC through their website, www.ntc.gov.ph, or by calling their hotline at 1682.
