Globe Group, a leading digital solutions platform, is poised to revolutionize the digital landscape for Filipino seniors with its innovative “Teach Me How To Digi” #SeniorDigizen Learning Session, scheduled for January 25 at the Skydome, SM North Edsa.
With the support of major tech and retail brands and senior citizen advocates from the government, the #SeniorDigizens event aims to bring together at least 220 senior citizens for a half-day of enriching tech learning.
Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe Group, emphasized the importance of senior citizens acquiring digital skills, envisioning a future where many services will be fully digital. Cu aims to help seniors overcome their fear of technology, assuring them that once they try it, it will be as easy or even easier than traditional methods.
Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group, highlighted that as digitalization accelerates, tech adoption should be simple for everyone, regardless of age. The #SeniorDigizens campaign aims to equip seniors with knowledge to adopt new tech and apps that address their day-to-day challenges.
The learning sessions at the event will cover digital skills, including creating a Gmail account (facilitated by Google), a smartphone 101 course (via Globe), and sessions on using fintech platform GCash and telehealth service KonsultaMD.
Retail giant SM is actively involved in the initiative, providing an opportunity for seniors to join the Super Grannies Club (SGC), the grandest Facebook community for seasoned individuals. SMAC, SM’s loyalty program, sponsored the event in SM Malls, aligning with Globe in prioritizing and bringing joy to senior citizens.
The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) will have a booth at the event, guiding seniors on how to register in its database to gather crucial information about the country’s approximately 11 million senior citizens. NCSC aims to introduce seniors to new technologies while ensuring online safety.
Representative Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay of United Senior Citizens Partylist expressed support for Globe’s #SeniorDigizens campaign, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing seniors.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted the city’s partnership with Globe in assisting seniors in transitioning to a digital life, ensuring they enjoy the benefits of modern technology.
In addition to educational sessions, #TeamGlobeofGood influencers Kiray Celis and Chuckie Dreyfus will bring entertainment to the event, with hosting by internet personality Lester “Buji” Babiera.
The #SeniorDigizen learning session follows the success of the “Teach Me How to Digi” TikTok contest held in September, where over 200 videos showcased tech lessons imparted by younger family members to their senior loved ones.
Globe will award 25 contest winners with prizes worth P25,000 at the event, contributing to the ongoing effort to bridge the digital divide for the elderly. Liza Reyes, Public Relations and Communications Strategy Head at the Globe Group, emphasized the commitment to ensuring seniors actively engage in today’s tech-savvy society.
Globe’s #SeniorDigizens campaign aims not only to educate but also to inspire a new generation of empowered seniors ready to engage and connect in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment. For more information about Globe, visit www.globe.com.ph
