Globe, a leading digital solutions platform, and the esteemed non-profit opera company LyrOPERA have united in a meaningful endeavor to combat involuntary hunger. Their collaboration brings forth the moving performances of the twin bill, “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “I PAGliacci” (CAVPAG).
These renowned verismo operas, resonating with themes of love and betrayal, are set to enthrall audiences on November 10 and 12 at the historic art-deco St. Cecilia’s Auditorium in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.
The partnership aspires to offer a profound musical experience while rallying communities to support the Globe-led Hapag Movement’s mission. This movement aims to tackle the prevalent issues of hunger and unemployment affecting millions of Filipinos. Proceeds from these back-to-back operas will directly contribute to the Hapag Movement and the LyrOPERA scholarship fund.
In collaboration with the Hong Kong opera company Tutti, these performances promise a fusion of top-tier talent and a meaningful cause. The event is endorsed by esteemed entities such as the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, the Philippine Heritage Society, Globaltronics, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in Manila.
Audiences are assured an unforgettable experience as the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, guided by acclaimed conductors Fan Ting and Horst-Hans Bäcker, orchestrates enchanting melodies. The direction of “I Pagliacci” will be led by multi-awarded director Carlos Siguion Reyna.
Bringing these beloved melodramatic stories to life are Hong Kong opera artists Leung Siu Kwan, Vicki Wu, Henry Ngan, Michael Lam, and Christy Li in the main roles for “Cavalleria Rusticana.” Meanwhile, “I PAGliacci” will feature Philippine opera artists Sherwin Sozon, Rica Nepomuceno, Zip de Guzman, and Glenn Gaerlan, along with American Isaac Droscha as Tonio.
“Music transcends boundaries and touches souls. Through our collaboration with LyrOPERA, we aim to merge music with purpose, extending tangible support to families still grappling with daily sustenance challenges. We encourage everyone to join us on this transformative journey,” stated Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
“We are thrilled to bring two new operas to Manila that will undoubtedly evoke emotions through haunting songs and lyrics. As much as music moves audiences, we also aim to impart a message of hope to those battling hunger every day,” shared Sherwin Sozon, co-founder of LyrOpera.
Globe and LyrOPERA have already taken steps in addressing involuntary hunger with their recent fundraiser concert, 懷念老歌 (Music of Yesteryears), raising PHP200,000 for the Hapag Movement. Partnering with the Tzu Chi Foundation, these funds will aid over 1,000 tech-voc and college scholars.
All patrons of art, change advocates, and supporters of a hunger-free world are invited to be part of this advocacy by purchasing tickets at TicketWorld. #CometotheOpera #CAVPAG #LyrOPERA #HAPAG.
