Family has always been the heart of Julie’s, the Philippines’ beloved neighborhood bakeshop. From second-generation president and CEO Joseph Gandionco, son of the brand’s matriarch Julie Gandionco, to second- and third-generation franchisees managing over 600 stores nationwide, the essence of family strengthens Julie’s mission to provide fresh and affordable bread to Filipinos.
“The enduring partnerships we’ve built with our franchisees—some lasting over 20 years—speak volumes about the strength of our business,” said Joseph Gandionco. “With 40 years of experience and expertise, we’ve made it easier for franchisees to embark on an investment that is both sustainable and reliable.”
The inspiring stories of Julie’s franchisees highlight how the company fosters thriving, generational businesses.
Beginnings and Successes
For Tony Mesina and his wife Mel, the dream of building a better future for their newborn child motivated them to return to the Philippines in 2001 after years of working as OFWs in China and Hong Kong.
“Even with limited business experience, we chose Julie’s Bakeshop because, after consulting friends, we believed that a food business would be more resilient,” Mesina shared.
More than 20 years later, Mesina now manages eight Julie’s Bakeshop branches in Baguio and La Trinidad, employing approximately 120 people.
Inspired by their family’s success, the Mesina children have also embraced the baking business. “We guide and teach them in daily operations, financial management, and, most importantly, people-handling skills—critical elements for running a successful business,” Mesina explained.
