Shares how it emerged as the country’s only double unicorn
GCash, the premier financial super app in the Philippines, is showcasing its remarkable journey of financial inclusion and FinTech triumph on the global platform of the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) 2023. Highlighting its unique position as the country’s sole double unicorn, GCash has significantly impacted the daily lives of Filipinos.
Martha Sazon, the President and CEO of GCash, takes part in a panel discussion themed “Building Unicorns: An ASEAN Success Story” at the Insights stage of SFF 2023. She shares this platform with Ernest Cu, the President and CEO of Globe Group, one of the largest telecom companies in the Philippines. The discussion is moderated by Ryan Huang, Assistant Finance Editor and Senior Producer and Presenter at Singapore’s MONEY FM 89.3.
“Aligned with our vision of achieving ‘Finance for All,’ GCash has spearheaded the transformation of the Philippines’ digital economy, ensuring no one is left behind. Engaging with like-minded organizations at SFF 2023 allows us to forge partnerships and enhance our capabilities in driving an inclusive and secure digital ecosystem,” expressed Sazon.
“At GCash, our pursuit involves continual enhancement of services and relentless innovation to serve Filipinos irrespective of their location,” she further added.
GCash stands as the Philippines’ exclusive double unicorn, valued at over $2 billion, transcending its initial money transfer focus to offer diverse financial services to millions previously unserved or underserved. These encompass equitable lending, investment opportunities, insurance, cryptocurrencies, and various lifestyle services.
The expansion extends to partner marketing solutions and bolstering services for enterprise clients. Furthermore, through its global payments partner, Alipay+, GCash facilitates cashless transactions in 17 countries such as Singapore, Japan, and the USA for travelers. Additionally, it allows overseas users to register for GCash using international mobile numbers across six countries like the USA, Italy, and Japan.
The Singapore FinTech Festival, organized by Elevandi—a non-profit institution established by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Constellar—in collaboration with MAS and the Associati, is in its ninth year. This gathering emphasizes “The Applications of AI in Financial Services,” exploring how technologies like AI and Web3 can expedite the shift toward a low-carbon future, address the needs of underserved populations, and fortify the digital economy against potential risks.
