In their joint commitment to enhancing the financial literacy of Filipinos, GCash, the leading finance super app in the country, has teamed up with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to unveil the 2023 Financial Education Campaign. This initiative aims to empower millions of Filipinos, including Nano, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (NMSMEs), by facilitating the adoption of digital financial solutions to uplift their livelihoods.
The collaboration between SEC and GCash was solidified through the signing of a memorandum of agreement, coinciding with the SEC’s 87th anniversary and stakeholders’ appreciation ceremony. The event featured Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno as the keynote speaker, alongside key industry leaders.
The MOA for the Financial Education Campaign acknowledges G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI) as a pivotal partner in the SEC Capital Market Promotion and Awareness Inter-Agency Network, known as the SEC CAMPAIGN Network. Furthermore, the Fin-Ed Campaign aligns with the SEC’s Investor Protection Week, aiming to educate ordinary Filipinos on the advantages of investing and strategies for safeguarding their finances.
SEC Chairperson Emilio Aquino expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with GCash, highlighting the opportunity to educate millions on financial protection and goal achievement. He emphasized the collaborative effort to deepen financial literacy and inclusion, leveraging GCash’s commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos nationwide.
The campaign commenced with a live webinar titled “Fulfilling Your Wildest Negosyo Dreams: Smart and Sustainable Investing for Your Business,” streamed on the SEC and GCash official Facebook pages. SEC Commissioners and officers, along with GCash’s head of market education, Mark Ilao, discussed investor protection, various investment options, debt management, and strategies for MSMEs to grow and safeguard their businesses through loans and protection against scams. The program also emphasized secure financial planning using safe tools and strategies.
Following the webinar, a talk show seminar named “Shake It Off: Dropping Bad Financial Habits Toward a Secure and Sustainable Life” took place at the SEC Headquarters, attended by professionals, government officials, and students. It focused on effective methods to replace detrimental financial habits with beneficial ones, contributing to better financial health.
Lastly, SEC and GCash collaborated on air during a radio show titled “Usapang Kaperahan With SEC and GCash,” where SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino and GCash’s customer success head, Mark Ilao, shared insights on protecting finances and making sound investments. The discussion encompassed savings, investment opportunities, and strategies to secure one’s finances, aiming to educate the audience on various aspects of financial education.
