On July 28, 2022, our group set out at 6:30 am from Tagbilaran to Danao, eager to try rides like the Plunge and Suislide at Danao Adventure Park. Coincidentally, the park also held a forum that day to discuss how to treat and identify potential archaeological finds.
We attended the forum, where Dr. Kimberly Anne Plomp talked not only about archaeological finds, but revealed that she’s seeking funding to get more information about the animal and human remains discovered in Dagohoy Cave back in 2005.
The bones are significant because the cave was the hideout of Francisco Dagohoy, a revolutionary who initiated the longest revolt in Filipino history. Dr. Plomp and her team seek to gain more information about the remains. She plans to seek funding so that she may date the bones and study the context in which they were discovered. It’s said also there’s also a tomb inside the cave, which might be where Franciso Dagohoy was laid to rest. It may be possible to do a DNA test and compare it to his living descendants.
As of the time of this writing, it is speculated that the discovered bones contain 3 individuals. With funding and research, it’s possible to put up a small museum with the bones on display with details about its historical significance.
