Filipino Performers Light Up Hong Kong’s Chinese New Year Night Parade

Canlaon City Pasayaw Dance Company represents the Philippines on an International Stage

Hong Kong is set to welcome the Year of the Snake with the highly anticipated Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade, and this year, Filipino culture will take the spotlight. Representing the Philippines in this grand celebration is the Canlaon City Pasayaw Dance Company, bringing their vibrant festival spirit and cultural artistry to Tsim Sha Tsui on January 29, 2025.

A Spectacle of Global Festivities

Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) with Cathay as the title sponsor for the 23rd consecutive year, the parade’s theme, “Unfold a Year of Good Fortune,” reflects Hong Kong’s reputation as a global hub for world-class celebrations. The event will feature an impressive lineup of performers from 14 countries, dazzling floats, and pre-parade entertainment, including juggling acts, magic shows, and live music.

Showcasing Filipino Culture on a Global Stage

Hailing from Negros Oriental, the Canlaon City Pasayaw Dance Company is renowned for its energetic performances that showcase the rich traditions of Filipino festivals. Their participation in this prestigious international event highlights the Philippines’ cultural strength and the resilience of the Canlaon community.

“We are honored to represent Canlaon City and the Philippines at such a prestigious global celebration,” shared Seth Bariga of Canlaon Group. “Despite the challenges brought by the recent volcanic eruption and ongoing activities, we stand proud and resilient. This performance is not just about showcasing our talent but also about sharing the strength and spirit of our people with the world.”

The Pasayaw Dance Company will join 55 local and international groups, promising a bigger and more spectacular parade experience with over nine elaborate floats illuminating the streets of Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road.

Beyond the Parade: Extended Festivities

The celebration doesn’t end on January 29—some of the stunning floats and international performances will continue at Lam Tsuen’s Wishing Square from January 30 to February 13 as part of the Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival. This partnership between HKTB and the festival organizers ensures that both locals and visitors can enjoy the Lunar New Year magic well beyond the parade.

For Filipinos in Hong Kong and audiences tuning in via Discover Hong Kong’s YouTube livestream, this is a moment of national pride, celebrating the beauty of Filipino culture on a world stage.
