An acclaimed singer-songwriter and producer, Fern of Island Records Philippines, released his new single, titled “Whatever this is” and will release its own music video, on March 5 – which talked about a relationship that is not certain about where is it going.
Fern mentioned that one of his inspirations for the music video is his queer friends who opened up to him, they also thought about how love can be a tricky thing, and from that concept they called it “Whatever that is”
Moreover, Fern added that there’s no particular inspiration for the lyrics, as he wrote it based on how he currently felt that time, which was in late December.
According to Fern, “Whatever it is” is written in English because he expressed himself more comfortable in this language and wouldn’t want to force himself write it in Tagalog.
However, he said that the creation of the music video was really fun since he worked with his close friends in the middle of the process.
He also added that he don’t want to feel creating music will feel like work.
“The music video is candid and just talks about a relationship and not knowing where it is going,” He said.
As a producer himself for different singers, Fern said that going back to this field, where he had to be the performer is a challenge but have a different kind of satisfaction, especially when a listener of him gets the lyrics, compared to writing for an another artist.
According to him, he never writes songs in one sit. He have 718 recordings on his phone with random melody and it just come out when he is bored out or in the beat.
He added that he will always be evolving as an artist and will look forward for a lot of possiblities ahead.
“Whatever this is” is already featured in different countries such as in Singapore, Korean, Thailand, Vietnam and out now in different streaming platform like, Spotify playlist; New Music Friday, Youtube music release playlist and Apple Daily Playlist.
However because of the pandemic we are facing, Fern is planning to hold a virtual shot with this song, further details will be posting soon.
