In December 2023, the Wazzup.PH Food and Travel team, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotion Board of the Philippines, embarked on an unforgettable journey to Davao del Sur. Our hearts were filled with excitement as we anticipated the breathtaking views and unique experiences that awaited us in this beautiful province.
Day 1: A Warm Welcome and Delightful Delicacies
Our adventure began with a smooth flight from Manila to Davao, courtesy of Philippine Airlines. Upon arrival, we wasted no time and headed straight to Mers Native Delicacies for a scrumptious breakfast. The generous servings and delectable flavors left a lasting impression. We then had the privilege of visiting the home of the “last Bagobo weaver,” Salinta Monon.
Witnessing the legacy she left behind and meeting her family was a humbling experience. Lunch at Sunflower tuna grill and resto bar was a treat for both our taste buds and ears, as we were serenaded while enjoying our meal. The highlight of the day was our visit to the Humbled by Nature Farm, where we were warmly welcomed by the B’laan Tribe. Their traditional performances and grape picking activity made for an unforgettable cultural immersion. We spent the night at Big 8 corporate hotel, a comfortable hotel conveniently located near popular tourist spots.
Day 2: Unveiling Nature’s Wonders
Our second day kicked off with a scenic hour-long drive to Camp Sabros. Although the fog prevented us from seeing Mt. Apo, the hot creamy caramel macchiato and delicious blueberry cheesecakes at Camp Sabros provided the perfect pick-me-up. We then had the privilege of visiting the Bagobo-Tagabawa Cultural Village, where the Bagobo Tribe welcomed us with open arms. Their traditional dance and warm hospitality makes my heart melt. A visit to Mt. Apo Agri-Ecotourism Park allowed us to witness the joy of fishing and connect with nature. Jardin de Senorita, with its picturesque Dutch-inspired ambiance, provided the perfect backdrop for Instagram-worthy photos. We concluded the day at Montefrio Garden Resort, a comfortable retreat where we enjoyed karaoke and arcade games.
Day 3: Immersed in Local Culture
Accomodations
Our third day began with a visit to BACOFA (Balutakay Coffee Farmers), where we savored the aroma and taste of high-quality local coffee then we went to Twin Mountain View Resort where we were captivated with its breathtaking scenery and thrilling skywalk. At Sir Peds, we indulged in delicious snacks and had the pleasure of meeting the owner. Our day ended at Montefrio, where a delectable dinner and relaxing soak in the jacuzzi provided the perfect ending.
Day 4: Appreciating Local Crafts and Farms
We started the day by visiting the Hagonoy Weaving Center, where we witnessed the expertise of Bugoy Trinidad, a talented weaver. Her creations showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region. Lunch at Altamers offered not only a tasty meal but also a stunning view, I highly recommend trying their smoothies. Lao Farm introduced us to various farm animals and taught us about sustainable farming practices. The day ended at Camp Sabros, where we enjoyed comfortable accommodations and thrilling activities like zip-lining, cable car rides, and horseback riding.
Day 5: Grape Picking and Floral Paradise
Our fifth day took us to the Berries Farm Cabin & Restaurant, where we indulged in a delightful lunch and experienced the joy of grape picking. The hospitable locals made the experience even more memorable. We concluded the day at Haven’s Dew Resort, a haven of flowers and Instagrammable spots. The delicious food and rejuvenating massage added the perfect touch.
Final Day: Durian Delights and Island Paradise
On our last day in Davao, we revisited Mers for another enjoyable meal before heading to Apo ni Lola Durian House to purchase pasalubongs (souvenirs) for our loved ones. A visit to Discovery Samal in Davao del Norte revealed a paradise-like destination, this place was so beautiful that it took my breath away. My day was complete with a fantastic buffet dinner featuring remarkable seafood at Claribel Restaurant. Our Davao adventure came to a close with a visit to Poblacion Davao, where we indulged in the different varieties of durian.
Our Davao experience was truly a journey filled with unforgettable moments, warm hospitality, and breathtaking natural wonders. From exploring traditional villages to savoring local delicacies, we were captivated by the beauty and charm of Davao del Sur. This trip served as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage and natural treasures that the Philippines has to offer.
