Epson, a renowned global leader in professional printing, has joined hands with ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase (AFDS) in a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable fashion through cutting-edge technology.
In this exciting partnership, Epson has teamed up with seven talented local designers hailing from Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Together, they are crafting a distinctive fashion collection centered around the theme of sustainability, deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of their respective nations. The complete “Sustainability in Asia” collection is set to debut during Epson’s LFP Innovation Day in Bangkok on March 21, 2024. Leading up to this grand event, the designs will be showcased at Epson Solution Centers across the region, allowing audiences to appreciate the fusion of fashion and technology firsthand.
Harnessing the power of Epson’s state-of-the-art dye sublimation printers, including the SureColor SC-F6430, SureColor SC-F9430H, and SureColor SC-F10030, these visionary designers are bringing to life vibrant and crisp-colored apparel pieces for their distinctive collections.
Representing the Philippines at this year’s AFDS is Filipino designer Dave Ocampo, renowned for his focus on creating ready-to-wear styles that seamlessly blend wearability with timelessness. Ocampo is committed to sustainable practices, prioritizing the use of locally sourced fabrics to support indigenous communities. His designs aim to democratize fashion, accentuating sleek and classic silhouettes.
“The collection seeks to celebrate the Philippines’ vibrancy through its rich colors, symbols, and patterns,” shared Ocampo. “Drawing inspiration from the nation’s colorful festivals and cultural heritage, our designs encapsulate the essence of our identity.” Partnering with Epson for digital textile printing enables Ocampo to bring his vision to life, ensuring intricate details and vibrant hues are accurately reproduced.
Digital textile printing, particularly sublimation transfer, offers a streamlined printing process where designs are transferred directly onto fabric using heat and pressure. This method results in permanent, fade-resistant prints, significantly reducing water usage compared to traditional printing methods. Additionally, digital printing minimizes over-production, allowing designers to produce prints on demand, thereby reducing environmental impact and costs.
Masako Kusama, President of Epson Philippines Corporation, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting Epson’s commitment to sustainable technology solutions. Hayden Ng, Premier Founder and Singapore Fashion Ambassador of AFDS, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the designers’ shared vision for fashion and technology’s future.
The collaboration between Epson and AFDS represents a fusion of creativity, sustainability, and cultural heritage, showcasing the potential of digital textile printing to revolutionize the fashion industry while minimizing environmental footprint.
