Jason Paul Laxamana, the renowned filmmaker behind several award-winning and box office hits, has something special in store for moviegoers this year. “Baby Boy, Baby Girl” is a romantic comedy that explores the world of sugar dating, where relationships are approached like business transactions and expectations are laid out and agreed upon.
The film features Marco Gumabao as Seb, a former janitor who turned to sugar dating to make ends meet. He takes his sugar baby lifestyle seriously, living an opulent life that catches the eye of his ex-girlfriend, Josie (Kylie Verzosa).
Josie is a failed startup businesswoman, struggling to make ends meet through online selling and side hustles. When she learns of Seb’s success, she seeks his help to get into the world of sugar dating. Seb agrees to mentor her, but as they spend more time together, his feelings for her start to resurface.
Director Laxamana’s screenplay is based on thorough research, including creating an account on a social media site for sugar dating. He found that the principles of sugar dating are crystal clear, but what happens when someone can’t meet their end of the bargain? The film examines the potential consequences of such situations.
Kylie Verzosa expressed her enthusiasm for the project, especially for the opportunity to work with Director Laxamana. Marco Gumabao, on the other hand, revealed his initial shock upon reading the script, but was excited to take on the role of a sugar baby.
The film also features a talented cast, including Migo Valid, Yen Durano, Gino Roque, Andrea Babierra, Giselle Sanchez, Marnie Lapus, Gary Lim, Rey PJ Abellana, Marissa Sanchez, and Yayo Aguila.
“Baby Boy, Baby Girl” is not just a light and entertaining romcom, but also an eye-opener that delves into the world of sugar dating.
