“We are incredibly proud to be recognized as the three-time Country Champion Brewery of the Philippines,” stated Raoul Masangcay, Brewer and Co-founder of Elias Wicked Ales & Spirits. “This accolade reflects our team’s unwavering passion and commitment. Despite the challenges of brewing in the Philippines, we have continuously pushed boundaries, perfected our craft, and delivered world-class beer.”
As the only certified Cicerone in the Philippines, Masangcay has consistently led Elias to success, enhancing the brewery’s reputation for innovation in craft beer. “We owe much of this success to our brewing consultant, Jason Matthew, whose expertise has been invaluable in refining our brewing process and developing exciting new recipes,” he added.
A Winning Portfolio of Beers and Ciders
Elias Wicked Ales & Spirits walked away from the competition with an impressive array of awards in both beer and cider categories, securing gold medals in various segments that showcased their experimental and traditional craft styles.
In the beer category, Elias earned the Gold Medal for the Experimental Beer Category with its Puto Bumbong Stout ++, a holiday-inspired brew featuring a delightful mix of coffee, chocolate, and ube, finished with velvety vanilla notes—perfect for evoking festive nostalgia. This stout was crafted in collaboration with Crema & Creme Coffee Lab.
Le Petit Mango also took home the Gold in the No/Low-Alcohol Beer Category, offering a refreshing taste with notes of orange peel, coriander, and a fruity, peppery kick from saison yeast—making it an ideal summer drink.
Additionally, Blends, with Benefits, a tea beer developed in collaboration with Jacob’s Well Chai, captured the Gold Medal in the Tea Beer Category. This unique beer, reminiscent of a classic Arnold Palmer, boasts bold black tea flavors complemented by a sweet burst of citrus from lemon.
The brewery’s Summer Breeze Saison continued its winning streak, earning Gold in the Saison Category. With Belgian-inspired flavors of bubble gum, banana, and orange, this effervescent saison reclaimed its title after being named the Champion Beer of Asia in 2023.
Elias Wicked Ales didn’t stop there, claiming Silver in the International Dark Lager Category for Uncle’s Dunkel, noted for its smooth, rich malt character. They also secured a Bronze Medal in the Flavored Beer Category for Some Bark, No Bite, celebrated for its nuanced flavor balance. The Hopped Summer Breeze Saison earned Bronze in the Saison Category, while their innovative Chai Me To The Moon took home Bronze in the Spiced Beer Category for its complex blend of spices, herbs, and vegetables.
A New Chapter in Cider Excellence
For the first time, Elias Wicked Ales & Spirits ventured into cider competitions and achieved immediate success, earning Gold in the Perry/Pear Category for their debut cider, Pear Pressure. Crisp, juicy, and bursting with fresh Asian pear flavor, this cider offers a refreshing twist and has quickly become a favorite.
Their creativity shone through with Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Vanilla, which earned Bronze in the Specialty Cider Category, delighting cider lovers with its vibrant, fruit-forward profile.
Chairman’s Selection: Honoring Exceptional Craftsmanship
Several of Elias’ beers were recognized in the Chairman’s Selection, a special mention for outstanding beers that did not win medals but impressed the judges. Lost in Japan, a modern wheat beer, and Tripel Dribble, a strong ale, both received this prestigious acknowledgment. The brewery’s experimental Agent Orange, Get Up Get Up was also recognized in the Flavored Beer Category.
These accolades underscore Elias’ versatility and innovation in brewing and highlight their dedication to advancing the craft beer scene. “Winning the title of Asia’s Best Small Brewery is a dream come true,” remarked Masangcay. “This recognition reflects not just our hard work but also our commitment to elevating the craft beer scene in Asia. Our goal is to make the Philippines a go-to destination for craft beer enthusiasts across the region, and this is a major step toward that vision.”
