Funcom is excited to reveal that Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated Open World Survival MMO, is set to launch in early 2025, with the console release scheduled for a later date. The game was showcased at Gamescom Opening Night Live, where fans were given a sneak peek through a 5-minute Exclusive Gameplay Reveal. This footage offers a first look at a player’s journey from scavenging and surviving to leading an entire guild in the quest for spice. Check out the new gameplay footage now!
Set on the most dangerous planet in the universe Dune: Awakening will challenge players to…
- SURVIVE the scorching desert and colossal sandworms by learning the ways of the Fremen.
- EXPAND your influence through combat, spice flow, building and upgrading bases, crafting vehicles, and trade. Develop your character by walking the path of the Mentat, Trooper, Planetologist, Swordmaster or Bene Gesserit.
- CONTROL the spice and cling to power as guild intrigue and warfare rage. Join a guild and align with House Harkonnen or Atreides, and clash for the precious spice in dynamic guild versus guild battles involving a range of vehicles, tech, and specialized combatants.
Dune: Awakening has made a significant impact at Gamescom, where the striking sandworm sculpture guides visitors to the booth for an exclusive 30-minute gameplay presentation and the chance to grab a Fremkit swag bag. For those who couldn’t make it to the event, the gameplay presentation will be livestreamed over the next few days by content creators like Sacriel, Alphacast, and Mowky. Additionally, journalists and content creators will have the opportunity to experience a closed-door demo of the game and share their impressions with the public.
Joel Bylos, Creative Director at Funcom, expressed his excitement about the gameplay reveal: “Showing gameplay for the first time is always a major moment, especially with a game that combines various systems to create unexpected experiences. The team has done an incredible job, and we’re eager to see the community’s reaction.”
Collaborating with the Herbert Estate and Legendary Entertainment, Funcom’s Dune: Awakening explores an alternate history where Paul Atreides was never born, allowing players to shape the future of Arrakis themselves.
Sam Rappaport, Vice President of Interactive Media at Legendary Entertainment, commented, “We’re thrilled for gamers to see Dune: Awakening at Gamescom. The game’s authenticity and meticulous detail capture the richness of the Dune universe, echoing the world depicted in Denis Villeneuve’s films. It’s a testament to the developers’ dedication and offers fans a new way to engage with the iconic saga.”
Following the gameplay reveal, Funcom will host the third Dune: Awakening Direct on August 29, featuring additional gameplay footage and details, with Soe Gschwind returning as the host.
Dune: Awakening is set to launch in early 2025 on PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions to follow. Players can wishlist the game on PC and consoles and sign up on the official website for a chance to join the closed Beta.
