General Nakar, Quezon, a town rich in natural beauty, is a haven for those who seek adventure and tranquility amidst stunning landscapes. Known for its abundant bodies of water, General Nakar offers a plethora of activities that allow visitors to connect with nature in the most exhilarating ways. During our trip, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Sapot Falls and experience the thrill of water tubing in Rigrig River at Sitio Masla, Brgy. Sablang.

Exploring Sapot Falls

Our adventure began with a journey to Sapot Falls, a majestic 150-foot waterfall nestled in the heart of Sitio Masla. Our knowledgeable tour guide, Mr. Jonathan Ascaraga, shared fascinating stories about the falls’ origin. He explained that Sitio Masla, where Sapot Falls is located, is the ancestral land of the Dumagat and Remontado ethnic groups, also known as “Agta.” In their native language, “Agta” means “human.” The term “Dumagat” translates to “people from the sea,” while “Remontado” means “to flee to the hills.” The name Sitio Masla is derived from “Maslog,” meaning “River with a high current.”

According to Mr. Ascaraga, there is a poignant story behind the name Sapot Falls. A Dumagat family once visited the waterfall, and during their visit, a child nearly fell from a baby carrier. The father shouted, “Sapotin mo! Sapotin mo!” meaning “Catch him! Catch him!” This cry for help gave the falls its name, “Sapot,” symbolizing the urgency and care within the community.

The sight of the cascading water, glistening under the sunlight, was nothing short of mesmerizing. The sound of the water crashing into the water below was both powerful and soothing, creating a sense of awe and peace.

The Thrill of Water Tubing in Rigrig River

After soaking in the beauty of Sapot Falls, we descended to experience another adrenaline-pumping activity—water tubing in the Rigrig River. The river, known for its numerous rapids, promised an exciting ride. As we hopped into our tubes, the cold water rush and anticipation of rapids filled us with pure excitement.
