Recognizing the pivotal role of the youth in shaping the nation’s progress and innovation, GCash, the leading Finance Super App, recently completed the second phase of its Jumpstart Internship Program. This comprehensive 11-week initiative aims to cultivate undergraduate students into future leaders in the field of financial technology.

Launched in June 2023, this year’s program attracted over 1,500 student applicants from diverse colleges and universities nationwide. From this pool of talented candidates, 39 exceptional minds were selected and immersed within various business groups of the country’s premier fintech super app.

Moreover, winners of the ImaGnation innovation challenge and several high-potential students securing a spot in the ImaGnation Top 15 also earned coveted positions in this competitive and esteemed summer program.

Mentorship and collaborations

Under the guidance of GCash’s fintech leaders and experts, the interns were strategically placed across departments such as Tech and Operations, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Fuse Lending, Wealth Management, New Businesses, Transformation, Strategy, People and Purpose, and Compliance.

Preparing them for the real-world landscape, GCash provided these interns with opportunities to engage in impactful projects alongside the team. Additionally, weekly GNation sessions were conducted, aiming to involve and equip them for the fast-paced and ever-evolving culture inherent in the fintech industry.

GCash’s Chief People Officer, Robert Gonzales, highlighted, “Shaping the next generation of innovators and leaders in the industry necessitates early exposure and immersion in the field. By granting them a seat at the table and amplifying their voices through this internship program, we employ collaborative practices to steer them in the right direction as the future of fintech.”

Ready for the real world

The structure of the Jumpstart Internship Program was meticulously designed to offer undergraduate students an immersive and collaborative glimpse into the workings of the fintech industry. It sheds light on GCash’s ongoing innovation aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Filipinos through financial inclusion.

Through this internship program, interns absorbed best practices, cultivated learning behaviors, and fostered a dynamic mindset, equipping them to adapt to the swiftly changing demands within the ever-evolving tech industry.

Ben Bensali, Batch Valedictorian and a BS Development Communication student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, who previously participated in ImaGnation, shared valuable insights with fellow interns, emphasizing the importance of serving the nation. “In the turbulence of Filipino life, our country needs your brilliant minds now more than ever to devise solutions that empower and uplift those who need it the most,” he encouraged.

The most recent iteration of the program concluded with a graduation ceremony held on September 7 at Seda Hotel BGC. Here, interns were honored with Certificates of Achievement for completing the Jumpstart Internship Program. Special awards recognized standout interns for their exceptional proactive performance and attendance.
