Filipinos in 16 countries can soon use international mobile numbers for the GCash app
Cash, the foremost finance super app and largest cashless ecosystem in the Philippines, has received approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to extend its services to millions more Filipinos residing overseas using their international mobile numbers.
Initially introduced in beta to users in the US, Canada, Italy, the UK, Australia, and Japan, the BSP’s endorsement now clears the path for the full launch of the service and expansion to 10 additional countries, including the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Spain, and Germany.
Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile wallet operator of GCash, remarked, “In 2024 and beyond, we are intensifying our efforts to cater to our users beyond the borders of the Philippines. With approximately 13 million Filipinos residing abroad, we acknowledge and address the necessity for them to support their families back home and maintain control over building their loved ones’ financial future.”
GCash users in these 16 countries can register using their international mobile numbers along with their Philippine passport or other valid Philippine IDs for identity verification. Once fully authenticated, they can securely and seamlessly assist their families back home by sending money for free (GCash-to-GCash), settling bills promptly, and instantly purchasing load credits through the app.
Paul Albano, General Manager of GCash International, expressed, “Thanks to BSP’s backing, we can now provide our Kababayans worldwide access to financial services that alleviate the challenges of managing their finances and better supporting their families back home. We will soon introduce additional services such as savings, gifting vouchers, using GCash for online payments, and more accessible methods for cash-in.”
In addition to enabling overseas Filipinos to utilize GCash with their international mobile numbers, the leading fintech company has been broadening its global presence through collaboration with the global payments platform, Alipay+. The Philippine finance super app can be utilized to transact with select merchants across various countries in Asia, Europe, the US, and the Middle East.
Furthermore, the new GCash card, powered by international payments giant Visa, offers users another cashless payment option when traveling abroad. The card can be utilized for transactions at over 100 million merchants across 200 countries and territories.
GCash provides its users with a diverse range of accessible financial products and services, including Send Money, Buy Load, and Pay Bills. Additionally, users can explore other innovative financial services such as GSave, GInsure, and GInvest to kickstart their journey towards achieving their financial objectives.
