In celebration of the first anniversary of CCP Cine Icons, a special screening and talkback session featuring The Flor Contemplacion Story is scheduled for March 15th at 1 pm, to be held at the GSIS Theater in Pasay City.
This event, free and open to the public, stands as CCP’s contribution to National Women’s Month, reflecting its commitment to Gender and Development (GAD).
Presented in collaboration with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and VIVA Films, The Flor Contemplacion Story is a 1995 crime-thriller that recounts the tragic narrative of Flor Contemplacion, a Filipino domestic worker. Upon relocating to Singapore in search of employment, Flor finds herself accused of the murder of fellow maid Delia Maga and the child under her care, despite evidence supporting her innocence. Despite protests, she is ultimately sentenced to death.
Directed by Joel Lamangan, with a screenplay by National Artist Ricky Lee and Bonifacio Ilagan, and featuring National Artist Nora Aunor, The Flor Contemplacion Story delves into personal, social, and political dimensions. It received both controversy and critical acclaim, winning Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 1996 FAP Awards, among numerous other accolades.
Over the past year, CCP Cine Icons has showcased films by National Artists Ricky Lee, Nora Aunor, and Marilou Diaz-Abaya at various screening venues and partner schools nationwide. This initiative, part of the CCP Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division-Production and Exhibition Department (FBNMD-PED), aims to honor and promote the life and works of these esteemed National Artists.
CCP Cine Icons is integral to CCP Lakbay Sine, an outreach program of FBNMD-PED, which brings diverse film projects to regions, communities, organizations, and campuses, fostering Filipino film appreciation among the youth and the broader public.
