Planning a land tour can be overwhelming. There’s so much to see in Bohol and we guarantee that you cannot fit everything in one day! If you’re pressed for time, check out the top 5 destinations you can’t miss. We also included some tips so you can navigate the hot spots with ease.
1. Baclayon Church – this church is a good specimen of the other old churches within Bohol. Its architecture reveals Bohol’s lavish history. Everyone has seen a photo of the church’s facade, but entering through the right door will yield a unique perspective. Don’t forget to wear clothes that cover the shoulders and knees.
2. Chocolate Hills – we suggest arriving at 4:30 pm when it’s not too hot and not too crowded. The changing colors during sunset offers a picturesque backdrop to the famed Chocolate Hills.
3. Tarsier Sanctuary – emotionally sensitive and easily stressed, these adorable creatures are all too relatable. You get a postcard as a ticket when you pay the entrance fee. Tarsiers are nocturnal, so please remain silent and respect their bedtime. Keep your distance and DO NOT TOUCH them. The tarsiers are also considered endangered. It’s worth your time to chat with the staff regarding their conservation efforts.
4. Hinagdanan Cave – the best time to go is in the morning or late in the afternoon when this spot is the least busy. Wear nonslip footwear and be ready for your feet to get wet. Even though you don’t intend on swimming, the center of the pool is 10 to 12 feet during the high tide, which means the water level surrounding the pool rises a few feet. The guide that will take you to the cave is actually a volunteer and the tip is entirely dependent on you.
5. Bohol Bee Farm – this business is all about sustainability and supporting livelihood programs. They have a restaurant, a farm and a restaurant. Taste their selection of spreads and honey at The Buzzz Shop and take some home to share with family and friends.
If you have an extra day to spare, we highly recommend Danao Adventure Tour which is 3 hours away from Panglao Island and the Antequerra weaving community.
A trip to Bohol won’t be complete without visiting Balicasag and Virgin islands. Check out our post on Panglao Island Hopping.
