The band’s third studio album serves as an allegory for self-discovery and personal growth
Filipino nine-piece band Ben&Ben offers fans an early holiday treat with the release of their highly anticipated third studio album, The Traveller Across Dimensions, now available via Sony Music Entertainment.
This concept album merges captivating music with stunning animated visuals, delivering a truly immersive experience. The story follows Liwanag, a central character embarking on a transformative journey to find inner peace. Her adventure spans three symbolic realms—Light, Energy, and Feel—where she confronts trials that challenge her path to self-discovery.
A World of Characters and Growth
Liwanag’s story introduces a host of compelling characters who play pivotal roles in her journey. Gabay, a wise mentor, guides her in the Light Dimension. Her loyal pet, Puhon, assists her in navigating the Energy Dimension. Meanwhile, Mahiwaga, a fellow traveler on a parallel quest, crosses paths with Liwanag in the Feel Dimension, enriching the narrative with themes of interconnectedness and growth.
In the band’s words, the album reflects their own journeys: “Her story mirrors our experiences with innocence, struggle, and maturity. Liwanag learns that the pain of loss is essential to the peace she seeks.”
The Power of Animation
Blending animation with music was a natural choice for Ben&Ben, inspired by their love for visual storytelling. “Animation uniquely conveys complex emotions in an accessible way,” they explain. To bring Liwanag’s story to life, the band collaborated with Puppeteer Studios, whose expertise in animation gave vibrant life to their vision.
“Seeing our ideas evolve into full animation was surreal,” the band shares. “Puppeteer Studios respected both the music and the animated world we envisioned, creating something that perfectly captured the story we wanted to tell.”
A Collaborative Songwriting Process
The album’s narrative emerged organically from the music, with much of the songwriting led by Paolo and Miguel Benjamin, while percussionist and vocalist Andrew De Pano contributed a track. “This was a full-circle moment for us,” the band reflects. “The music inspired the story, and the evolving narrative helped shape the songs.”
Themes of surrender, wonder, and hope permeate the album, echoing the band’s creative process and personal growth during its production.
A Bold Sonic Evolution
Building on the success of Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno, The Traveller Across Dimensions takes a daring leap forward, balancing ambitious soundscapes with intimate moments. Produced by the band alongside Ziv, with contributions from Petra Sihombing, Sam and Tim Marquez, and JP Verona, the album explores genre-blurring arrangements and innovative sound design.
“The music reflects Liwanag’s journey,” the band explains. “Turbulent moments are matched by heavier arrangements, while introspective tracks feature gentler instrumentation. It’s a balance of chaos and serenity.”
A Groundbreaking Live Concert
Ben&Ben will bring The Traveller Across Dimensions to life on stage with their first arena concert on December 14, 2024, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Produced by Ovation Productions, this groundbreaking event will fuse live music with animation, film, and multimedia artistry, creating an immersive audio-visual experience that captures the album’s essence.
“We’re excited to reimagine the live concert experience,” the band shares. “This is more than a performance; it’s a journey through Liwanag’s story in real time.”
