In celebration of the annual #WorldPandesal Day on October 16, where 100,000 free Pandesal breads will be distributed at the venerable 84-year-old Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City, some customers and prominent celebrities have shared their favorite ways of enjoying this uniquely Filipino bread.
Renowned movie actress, former Batangas Governor, and former Deputy Speaker, Vilma Santos Recto, revealed, “My favorite is Pandesal with coffee and cheese!”
Movie producer Mother Lily Y. Monteverde fondly recollected, “Ever since I was a child, my favorite has been Pandesal with bukayo. Happy World Pandesal Day!“
National Artist for music, Ryan Cayabyab, shared, “My favorite is warmed Pandesal from the oven, paired with hardened butter, and dunked in a cup of hot tablea or traditional chocolate, ensuring the butter isn’t completely melted. Yummmmy!”
National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Ricky Lee, declared, “I love Pandesal with peanut butter, and sometimes cheese. I don’t drink coffee.”
Actress and beauty queen, Ruffa Gutierrez, expressed her preference, “I love eating hot Pandesal with butter. It’s most delicious when you dip it in hot coffee with milk in the mornings or merienda time.”
Comedian Giselle Sanches remarked, “I enjoy Pandesal with cheese. Kesong puti is the best cheese for Pandesal. The Italians would go wild once they get to taste Pandesal with kesong puti. It’s the cheapest nutritious merienda out there.”
Actress Barbie Forteza added, “For me, my favorite is the classic Pandesal with brewed coffee.”

Quezon City Councilor and actor, Alfred Vargas, reminisced about the way Pandesal is enjoyed in his hometown, saying, “My favorite way of eating Pandesal is when it’s fresh and hot, straight from the ‘pugon’. Then I’ll spread kesong puti as ‘palaman,’ or Coco Jam when I’m in the mood for something sweet. I’ll pair it with local hot chocolate to complete the treat. That’s the way we do it in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, my hometown.”
The inaugural “World Pandesal Day” civic and cultural project was launched on October 16, 2015, at Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City, with special guests GMA Network, Inc. Chairman Atty. Felipe Gozon, Senator Sonny Angara, and National Youth Commission (NYC) Commissioner and actor Dingdong Dantes in attendance.

The public is invited to join the annual #WorldPandesalDay celebration on October 16, 2023, at 10 AM, for the distribution of 100,000 Pandesal breads, cheese, sardines, hams, juices, and other foods at the 84-year-old Kamuning Bakery Cafe, located at Judge Jimenez Street corner K-1st Street, Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City. The special guests leading the bread-giving ceremony at the Pandesal Forum will include Senate Agriculture & Food Committee Chairman Senator Cynthia A. Villar. October 16 also marks the United Nations’ “World Food Day” highlighting global issues related to hunger and food security.
On the eve of #WorldPandesalDay, on October 15, Sunday, from 8 AM to 12 noon, Kamuning Bakery Café is hosting a Free Medical and Dental mission, conducted by volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses, and the staff of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) and Chinese General Hospital (CGH).
Four public schools near Kamuning Bakery Cafe will be represented at the October 16 kick-off ceremony of free Pandesal distribution. These schools include Kamuning Elementary School, led by Principal Luisito O. Cleto, Tomas Morato Elementary School, led by Principal Aleth Bautista-Molina, Quezon City High School, led by Principal Josephine Maningas, and Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science & Technology High School, led by Principal Marivic Francisco.
Kamuning Bakery Café, a historic artisanal establishment, is the pioneering bakery in Quezon City. Its owner, realty entrepreneur, and writer Wilson Lee Flores, has transformed it into a social enterprise, with profits directed towards civic and cultural charities, such as donations to rural public schools and the annual World Pandesal Day.
