‘TYLA’ is now available Featuring Travis Scott, Tems, Gunna, Becky G, Skillibeng, and more
The conclusion of 2023 set the stage for Grammy award-winning Amapiano pop-R&B sensation Tyla to firmly establish her stardom in 2024, and today, the South African superstar officially marks this milestone.
Tyla’s debut self-titled album, “TYLA,” featuring collaborations with Travis Scott, Tems, Gunna, Becky G, Skillibeng, and Kelvin Momo, is now available.
Accompanying her debut album release is the brand-new music video for the remix of her chart-topping single, “Water,” featuring Travis Scott. The original music video gained viral success globally, with its dance choreography generating over 5.6 billion views and 4 million creations solely on TikTok in the Southeast Asian region. In the Philippines, “Water” has garnered 3.3 billion views and 3.1 million creations on TikTok, solidifying its status as a top contributor on the platform. Moreover, the “Pop-piano” sensation captured attention in Philippine mainstream media late last year, with cover performances of “Water” by Filipino superstars Sarah Geronimo and Kathryn Bernardo making headlines.
Tyla’s debut album spans 15 tracks and represents her first full-length offering, following the success of her hit single, “Water,” which amassed 766 million streams worldwide in 2023. Across Southeast Asia, the single attained 4X Platinum certification in Singapore and Malaysia, and Gold certification in the Philippines.
In her debut album, Tyla showcases the breadth of her talent as an African pop star, blending Amapiano with various genres such as Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B. Tracks like “Safer,” “Truth Or Dare,” and “On My Body” featuring Becky G, echo the infectious energy of “Water,” while other tracks explore different musical territories. Collaborations with Gunna and Skillibeng result in a high-energy Hip Hop anthem, while “Butterflies” offers a soulful R&B ballad.
Reflecting on her album, Tyla expressed her pride, stating, “When I listen to the album, I’m so proud of it. I just see our sound going so far: the culture, the words, the slang. Even just Joburg — the thought of people now singing about Joburg.”
Tyla’s release follows a historic second half of 2023, during which she achieved the highest-charting female soloist position in African history on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with “Water” peaking at #7. This achievement was accompanied by an RIAA Platinum certification and Tyla’s first GRAMMY nomination, ultimately resulting in a victory for “Best African Music Performance” at the GRAMMYs in February.
Ezekiel Lewis, President of Epic Records, emphasizes the inspirational impact of Tyla’s journey, noting, “The Tyla story is one that has already inspired millions of people. Her young star is on the rise, and this project marks one more step towards the achievement of a global music fan base rooted in the touch and feel of Amapiano, R&B, and Pop. Her music is an export of African music and culture ‘The Tyla Way,’ and we are eager to share this amazing body of work with the world. Stay Tuned.”
