Starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, Lionsgate Play exclusive series ‘Minx’ takes the viewer back to 1970s L.A. and its groovy fashion.
From bell-bottom pants and platform shoes to vibrant colors and bold patterns, the costumes in Minx play a pivotal role in capturing the essence of the 1970s. Created and scripted by Ellen Rapoport, the series chronicles the journey of an earnest young feminist named Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) who teams up with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to launch the first erotic magazine designed for women. In the show, each outfit not only contributes to building the world of the characters but also mirrors their personalities. In the case of the protagonist, Joyce, it even reflects her personal growth.
Lead actress Ophelia Lovibond emphasized the central role of fashion in the series, stating, “Costume plays a massive character; it’s a significant part of the show. It’s something that our viewers have really enjoyed analyzing… You see Joyce as quite buttoned up, and by the end of Season 1, she starts to loosen the pussybow. However, she still wears three-piece suits and uses her clothing as a form of armor. Much like Joyce’s growing confidence, the trappings of fame and wealth have boosted her self-assuredness, and this transformation is mirrored in her clothing choices. She used to be afraid of looking too feminine, fearing that it might undermine her and make her less credible. But now that she has firmly established herself in the business world, she feels comfortable dressing in a way that doesn’t require her to appear as a man to earn respect.”
Mark your calendars for October 6 and tune in to Lionsgate Play on PLDT Home for the latest season of Minx, exclusively available for streaming in the Philippines!
