In a dazzling ceremony at Chimes, Singapore, on December 7, ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ foremost content provider, was honored with the inaugural Asian Academy of Creative Arts Legacy Award. The recognition, presented at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) Gala 2023, celebrated ABS-CBN’s remarkable contributions to the industry.
Ruel S. Bayani, Head of ABS-CBN International Productions, graciously accepted the award, expressing gratitude to ABS-CBN’s dedicated team, local and international partners, advertisers, and Kapamilyas worldwide. Bayani highlighted the network’s enduring commitment to championing Filipino talent globally and nurturing the next generation of storytellers.
Despite facing a critical juncture in 2020 when ABS-CBN’s government license was not renewed, the network refused to succumb to adversity. Clement Schwebig, Chairman of the 2023 Asian Academy Creative Awards and President of Warner Bros. Discovery for India, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea, commended ABS-CBN’s resilience during the award presentation. He acknowledged their ability to pivot, form strategic partnerships, and emerge as a major content producer.
Direk Ruel emphasized, “Our story is far from over,” highlighting ABS-CBN’s determination to transcend challenges. He sees the network’s enduring legacy rooted in its shared character, echoing the sentiment that character is destiny.
