Over 400 new students, 8 school partners in six cities nationwide, 5 total learning hubs for Peso Smart
As part of its Impact Agenda—a global commitment to fostering sustained health, inclusive economic opportunities, and a sustainable future—Manulife Philippines has expanded its award-winning financial literacy program, Peso Smart, to reach more schools. The expansion also includes donations of learning kits to Gawad Kalinga communities.
Rahul Hora, President and CEO of Manulife Philippines, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving financial literacy and well-being in the country. “The expansion of Peso Smart reflects our dedication to equipping Filipinos, especially the youth, with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions. This initiative goes beyond personal success—it aims to build financial resilience and create a more secure future for all.”
Expanding Financial Literacy to More Schools and Communities
In partnership with the Corazon Sanchez Atayde Memorial Foundation (CSAMF), the Peso Smart x RecoveREADS program has reached over 400 new students across eight schools nationwide, including Banilad Elementary School in Cebu, San Miguel Elementary School, Ilugin Elementary School, and Buting Elementary School in Pasig, as well as schools in Taguig, Bohol, Albay, and Baguio. The curriculum covers budgeting, saving, and investing, empowering students to prioritize financial well-being early in life. Each participant receives a Peso Smart kit, containing educational modules and tools to support their learning journey.
Margaux Atayde, Executive Director of CSAMF, highlighted the importance of financial education for young Filipinos. “Financial literacy gives every Filipino child the belief that a secure future is possible. Learning the basics of smart money habits is the first step, and our partnership with Manulife helps them build that foundation.”
Supporting Gawad Kalinga Communities with Learning Kits
Manulife’s senior leaders recently held an introductory Peso Smart session for residents of Gawad Kalinga (GK) Eversley in Mandaue City, Cebu. The session, which included children and adults, covered essential financial literacy concepts and fostered stronger community ties. This event strengthened the collaboration between Manulife and Gawad Kalinga, furthering their commitment to sustainable community development.
In addition to the sessions, Manulife donated educational materials, including Peso Smart kits, printers, laminating machines, humidifiers, and board games, to Peso Smart learning hubs in Mandaluyong, Taguig, Siargao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, and Roxas City.
Established in 2023, the Peso Smart hubs provide computers, internet access, and after-school activities to students in Gawad Kalinga communities. Since its launch, over 3,000 students have graduated from the Peso Smart program, and more than 8,000 children have benefited from the learning hubs this year alone.
