HONOR Set to Unveil New AI Eye Tracking Feature Soon

#HONORtheChallenger Explores the Potential of Multimodal AI in Supporting People with Reduced Mobility

In advancing new technology, the needs of people with disabilities are often overlooked. International ALS foundations have been working tirelessly to raise awareness and drive innovation that benefits these communities. In line with HONOR’s dedication to human-centric innovation, the company is proud to be the first smartphone brand to introduce intent-based eye-tracking technology with its MagicOS 8.0 operating system. This AI-powered feature allows users to control their phones by simply moving their eyes to open notifications and apps. The feature will be available on global devices starting August 27, 2024.

“ALS is a progressive disease that affects nerve cells, leading to gradual muscle failure,” explains Limore Noach, Executive Director of ALS Foundation Netherlands. “As the disease progresses, ALS patients often retain only their eye movement. Many individuals diagnosed with such life-changing conditions find renewed purpose and seek to contribute meaningfully.”

HONOR is committed to advancing research and is developing non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies in its R&D lab. This technology enables communication with external devices through brain electrical signals, opening new possibilities for people with disabilities. Wei Zhang, a 34-year-old ALS patient from China who has lived with the disease for 26 years, recently tested this groundbreaking technology, which allows him to interact with a computer using brain signals. HONOR aims to inspire a future where AI interactions between smartphones and other devices provide new opportunities for those needing additional assistance.

HONOR the Challenger: Raising Global Awareness Through Social Engagement

To spotlight the ALS community and honor those living with the disease, BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions has created a short film featuring the inspiring story of artist and ALS patient Bernard Muller. The film highlights how Muller uses eye-tracking technology to create art, showcasing the transformative power of AI in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Social media users are invited to contribute to raising awareness about ALS, by participating in the #HONORtheChallenger social media challenge. View the challenge on TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook.
