Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino Marks 10 Years with Series of Shows Across Metro Manila

Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) is set to celebrate its much-anticipated event this year with a series of music events designed to deepen awareness and appreciation of Pinoy music.

The week-long festival, running from July 5 to 31 at various music venues across Metro Manila, continues its mission to spotlight both established and emerging homegrown acts. These artists have made significant contributions to Filipino culture and the local arts and economy.

“This year’s LMP has a more ‘back-to-basics’ and ‘keeping-it-simple’ approach,” says Christian Bautista, Vice President for Special Projects at the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM). “The focus is on genuinely listening to and appreciating artists as they share their music and stories in intimate settings. We’re emphasizing the artist and the song rather than the spectacle.”

Celebrating its tenth year, this edition of LMP marks a decade of honoring Filipino music, following Proclamation No. 933, signed by the late President Benigno Aquino III on December 19, 2014.

Returning with its core mission to showcase the richness and diversity of Filipino music, LMP 2024 aims to actively support Pinoy artists and provide them with a platform to share their work and stories with a global audience.

The OPM Spotlight: LMP Night, known for featuring some of the most prominent local talents, will continue its series of performances throughout the month at Kubo Bar in Kalayaan, Quezon City. Headliners include Johnoy Danao, Sugarcane, jikamarie, Color It Red, Mint Magic, and more from the OPM lineup.

Additional events include the OPM Spotlight: Rockwell LMP Series at Power Plant Mall in Makati City on July 24, 25, 26, and 28. The series will culminate with LMP24: PhilPop Night at Kubo Bar on July 31, 2024. This special event will highlight select winners and participants from the PhilPop songwriting competition, including Noah Alejandre, Davey Langit, Kulas Basilonia, Hazel Faith, and dwta. Ayala Land and Make It Makati will also host a series of acoustic shows and related activities from July 21 to 28, in partnership with OPM.

“Expect beautiful music and heartfelt performances from the artists,” says OPM President Ogie Alcasid. “We hope these shows will encourage continued support and love for Filipino artists and music beyond LMP.”

OPM Officer in Charge Gab Cabangon reaffirms the organization’s enduring mission. “The goal of LMP has always been to celebrate and promote Filipino artists and music. This year, we also aim to reintroduce OPM to the public and expand our community.”

Established under Proclamation No. 933 in 2014, Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino is dedicated to celebrating Filipino music in the final week of July each year.
