The highly esteemed 2024 Tokyo Marathon concluded with ASICS Southeast Asia’s representatives from the Philippines, Arlan Arbois and Marline Capones, delivering an impressive showcase of grit, passion, and genuine athleticism. Both athletes demonstrated exceptional performances, embodying the spirit of Filipino athleticism and meeting the challenge posed by the Tokyo Marathon with unwavering determination, style, and grace.
The calm before the storm
Prior to the Tokyo Marathon, ASICS SEA representatives engaged in a series of pre-event activities organized by ASICS Southeast Asia. Andrei Felix, a supporter of ASICS PH Runners, participated in these activities alongside other influencers from ASICS Southeast Asia. The activities included a revitalizing yoga session for Marline Capones, followed by a 5KM shakeout run in Shinjuku Park with Arlan Arbois and Andrei Felix. They were joined by influencers from other countries in ASICS Southeast Asia, including Pon Nawasch from Thailand and Hariz Hamdan from Vietnam.
Going the distance
Southeast Asian Games marathon silver medalist Arlan Arbois made history at the Tokyo Marathon by becoming the first Filipino to cross the finish line, achieving an impressive rank of 216 out of 38,000 participants. Similarly, longtime fitness enthusiast and multi-athlete Marline Capones completed the race in the women’s category with an outstanding time of 4:13. Both runners proudly represented ASICS at the Tokyo Marathon, showcasing remarkable dedication and heart.
Where the magic happens
Amid the buzz of the Tokyo Marathon, ASICS extended an exclusive invitation to Andrei Felix and Rica Peralejo for a tour of the ASICS Institute of Sports Science in Kobe, Japan. Established in 1977, the ASICS ISS embodies the corporate vision of “Creating Quality Lives through Intelligent Sport Technology” by prioritizing the development of high-quality sportswear and driving innovation within the industry.
The tour encompassed visits to the Material Research Lab, Material Processing Lab, and Material Testing Lab, offering an insider’s view of the shoe creation process at ASICS. Additionally, the ASICS SEA influencers were treated to a firsthand experience of the intricate crafting process at the miniature shoe workshop, led by the renowned designer of Kayano shoes himself, Mr. Shunichi Kayano.
ASICS changes the meta
The ASICS PH runners weren’t the sole participants making a splash at the Tokyo Marathon. Arlan Arbois proudly became the first Filipino to sport the ASICS Metaspeed Paris shoes at the event, setting the stage for the official local launch starting April onwards.
This innovative footwear promises to redefine the running experience for enthusiasts. The Metaspeed Paris collection, featuring the Metaspeed Sky and Metaspeed Edge, will be available at ASICS Glorietta and ASICS Bonifacio High Street from April 1, with a suggested retail price of 14,990 pesos.
