P-Pop sensation Josh Cullen and accomplished rapper Al James join forces in their latest collaborative single, “Yoko Na,” released under Sony Music Entertainment.
With its poignant lyrics, “Yoko Na” captures the unspoken sentiments amidst a relationship’s collapse. It acknowledges the unraveling of a once vibrant and promising love, despite efforts to salvage it until the bitter end.
The song embodies the essence of a summer anthem, featuring infectious rap verses from both artists, a memorable chorus, and a dynamic arrangement that fuses contemporary hip-hop and R&B elements with emotional depth.
Produced by Brian Lotho, who collaborated closely with Josh, the track authentically captures the essence of the lyrics with a resolute defiance. Lotho incorporates unique sonic elements like the sound of shattering bottles and flipping tables, evoking a sense of irreparable brokenness.
Josh Cullen explains, “‘Yoko Na’ stems from a candid session with my producer, Brian Lotho. We exchanged clichéd love narratives for real-life scenarios ordinary people face daily: the frustrations and struggles of past relationships, approached with a more mature perspective. It’s a raw, honest song straight from the heart.”
The collaboration came about organically when Josh realized that Al James’ laid-back rap style complemented the demo they had been crafting for months. Despite the short notice, Josh mustered the courage to invite the viral sensation to join the track, to which Al James agreed and delivered his verse ahead of schedule.
Speaking about his experience collaborating with Al James, Josh commended the Pa-umaga artist’s professionalism, noting how he submitted his contributions promptly and recorded his parts efficiently. The collaboration blossomed further as they bonded over food trips.
Josh Cullen and Al James’ “Yoko Na” is now available on all major digital music platforms worldwide through Sony Music Entertainment.
