Grab Philippines and its partner motorcycle taxi company MOVE IT celebrated their top female driver and delivery partners on Sunday, March 17, at the Babae Ako, Babiyahe Ako: Women’s Month Event. These outstanding individuals were honored for their exceptional performance, high order and ride completion rates, and positive customer ratings, serving as shining examples of female excellence on the road.
Among the awardees was Veronica Arabe, a 66-year-old GrabTaxi driver-partner from Baguio City. “As a single parent, my life has changed significantly since I started driving with GrabTaxi. One of the most important things GrabTaxi has provided me with is the ability to put all three of my children through college. This has truly been a blessing for our family,” shares Arabe. Starting on the Grab platform in 2019, Arabe notes that Grab has boosted her confidence in navigating the roads daily, ensuring safe and worry-free journeys with features such as passenger identification, GrabMaps, and Share-Your-Ride.
Among the distinguished women driver honorees, Arianne Hinara Claire Geguera stands out as the youngest GrabCar driver-partner in Iloilo City at the age of 22. Fresh from completing her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Criminology at St. Therese MTC-Colleges, Geguera wasted no time and immediately joined GrabCar as she prepares for the next phase of her career. “After graduation, I immediately joined GrabCar to become a driver-partner. This is to save up for my review and board exam. Grab serves as a stepping stone for me to fulfill my dream of becoming part of the Tri-Bureau,” shares Geguera. She appreciates the flexibility of being a GrabCar driver, allowing her to manage her own time effectively. As her own boss, she can allocate some days for her board exam review while balancing her driving responsibilities.
During the event, the spotlight also shone on the top female two-wheel drivers, with one of them being Sheryl Barrantes from MOVE IT. Barrantes shared that despite being with MOVE IT for less than a year, she has already witnessed how she can earn significantly on the moto-taxi platform, which she uses to provide for her family. “I earn well with MOVE IT. Here, I can afford my father’s dialysis and our daily needs. Female MOVE IT riders like me who are here today are proof that the roads and ride-hailing are not just for men,” she stated.
Coming from diverse backgrounds, these courageous and dedicated female drivers and riders all share a resounding message to current and aspiring women Ate Grab and Ate MOVE IT: “We can do it too!”. Alongside the awardees, thousands of other women drivers from across the Philippines gathered at the Metro Tent Convention Center in Pasig as the leading superapp and the homegrown moto-taxi company reaffirmed their commitment to fostering inclusive livelihood opportunities for every Filipino, shaping a more gender-neutral transportation sector.
Recently, Grab Philippines, in collaboration with MOVE IT, launched a comprehensive Women Program as part of the social-upliftment campaign GrabAsenso. This program includes a series of trainings covering topics such as vehicle maintenance, first aid, and preventive servicing, co-facilitated with agencies such as TESDA, MMDA, and the Philippine Commission on Women. Additionally, the leading superapp has officially introduced its Women Preference Toggle—a new tech feature on the Grab driver app exclusively for women driver-partners. The Women Preference Toggle prioritizes pairing women drivers with female passengers, significantly boosting the confidence of driver-partners in safely navigating the roads of the metro.
