Celebrating excellence in filmmaking, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presents the Lakbay Sine program, curated by its Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division (CCP FBNMD), showcasing an exhilarating lineup of acclaimed local films for free from February 22 to 24, across various venues in Metro Manila.
Lakbay Sine is an outreach initiative by CCP, aimed at bringing diverse film projects like CCP Cine Icons and Cinema Under The Stars (CUTS) to different regions, communities, organizations, and campuses to promote Filipino filmmakers’ works and foster film appreciation among youth and the public.
The cinematic journey begins at the University of Santo Tomas, where the award-winning film “Liway” by Kip Oebanda will be screened on February 22, 1pm, at the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building. Based on the director’s life, “Liway” follows Dakip, a young boy living with his parents in a makeshift prison during Martial Law, as his mother, Day, tries to shield him from the harsh realities of their situation.
The program continues at St. Paul University in Quezon City on February 23, starting with “Blue Room” by Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan at 8:30am. The film depicts the journey of an indie rock band facing unexpected challenges after their breakthrough at a local music festival.
Following “Blue Room,” there will be a special screening of “Anak,” written by National Artist Ricky Lee, in collaboration with ABS-CBN Sagip Pelikula, at 1pm. Starring Vilma Santos and Claudine Barretto, “Anak” explores the struggles of a Filipina overseas worker returning to her family after years abroad.
CCP Cine Icons, launched in 2023, pays tribute to National Artists Nora Aunor, Marilou Diaz-Abaya, and Ricky Lee, highlighting their contributions to Philippine cinema.
On February 24, 5pm, at ValACE Roofdeck in Valenzuela City, CCP Lakbay Sine partners with the Valenzuela City Library to present CUTS, featuring the 2009 Cinemalaya film “Dinig Sana Kita” by Mike Sandejas. The film tells a poignant love story between a deaf boy and a troubled rocker girl, set against the backdrop of music and silence.
CUTS, CCP’s outdoor cinema experience, showcases the best of Philippine independent films, adapting to the new normal in the film industry amidst the pandemic.
