Wickermoss, the acclaimed Filipino alternative rock band, is embarking on a journey back to their origins as they reunite with AltG Records after an 18-year hiatus.
Founded by Reiman Gesmundo (guitars) and Roger Alcantara (bass), Wickermoss enamored their fans with a unique fusion of influences, crafting a distinctive sound that blended pop, folk, jazz, and progressive rock elements.
Their breakthrough album, “Falling Leaves,” originally launched under the AltG Records banner, featured standout tracks like “Buwan,” “Falling Leaves,” and “Letters.” The raw, heartfelt emotions woven into their music resonated deeply with their audience.
In 2019, Wickermoss emerged from their hiatus, fueled by a collective determination to explore a trove of unreleased songs. This resurgence saw the introduction of new members: Allen Lucas (vocals and acoustic guitar), Rigil Borromeo (guitars), and Karmi Santiago (drums).
Presenting their latest creation, “Babalik,” the band reaffirms their penchant for translating emotions into melodic expressions. The single, penned by Gesmundo, navigates the intricacies of pain, anger, and the intricate aftermath of heartbreak. It delivers a candid portrayal of the emotional journey that follows the end of a romantic relationship.
Gesmundo shares his insight into the song’s creation, “I wrote the song during the lockdown when I participated in an online songwriting workshop. The song emerged from that experience, and as a band, we refined and developed it further. We also wanted to take a different approach this time, as many heartbreak songs center around letting go and hoping the other person finds happiness. ‘Babalik’ focuses more on the emotions of anger and hurt, reflecting the authentic feelings that follow heartbreak.”
The reunion between Wickermoss and AltG Records marks a heartening homecoming for the band. Alcantara states, “Returning to AltG Records feels like coming home. The label’s support not only fuels our creativity but also reminds us of our purpose as musicians. Our goal is simple—to have people connect with our music. Music is a companion that makes us feel understood and less alone in our experiences. We listen to music to find solace in the fact that others are going through similar emotions. With our music, we aim to be that companion for our listeners.”
