Paving the Path for Women: GCash and Connected Women Advocate AI’s Opportunities

Connected Women co-founder Gina Romero

GCash, a leading mobile wallet, joined forces with Connected Women to highlight the abundant prospects that the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers women. This crucial message took center stage during the GTalks event organized in celebration of UN Women in Tech day.

Gina Romero, co-founder of Connected Women, expounded on how their organization aligns with GCash’s vision of financial inclusion through AI training programs designed specifically for women. These initiatives empower women to qualify for remote employment opportunities, irrespective of formal education backgrounds.

Romero firmly believes that women from all walks of life can thrive in the field of AI. The rapid growth of emerging technologies, including AI, coupled with the widespread adoption of remote work, creates avenues for women to upskill and earn a livelihood from the comfort of their homes while managing their familial responsibilities.

“I’ve had a diverse career, ranging from pig farming to working as an air cabin crew, before entering the tech industry. Anyone can acquire the skills required for the future of work. We need women in tech at all levels to foster an equitable future. Connected Women ensures accessibility for women, including underserved groups, to participate in the digital economy,” emphasized Romero.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with GCash, a company that genuinely exemplifies diversity in tech and leadership roles. GCash’s commitment to fostering inclusivity perfectly aligns with our vision at Connected Women, and we are excited to work together to create more opportunities for women in the digital space,” added Romero.

Martha Sazon, President and CEO of GCash, expressed the company’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and financial freedom for women. Through partnerships like the one with Connected Women, GCash aims to provide women with increased opportunities. Beyond offering accessible financial services, GCash strives to normalize women leaders in the tech industry.

In collaboration with GCash, Connected Women enables its AI remote workers to receive payments seamlessly through the GCash platform. The Connected Women community platform is now easily accessible via the Earn Money feature within the GCash app.

Since the partnership began in March 2023, the feature has garnered over 11,000 sign-ups. According to Connected Women’s latest statistics report, 91% of respondents were non-male (female, non-binary, prefer not to say), with the majority seeking remote work opportunities.

Romero was one of the distinguished speakers at the GTalks event titled “Empowering Women in Tech.” Other notable speakers included Lenlen Mesina, UN Women country coordinator; Michelle Alarcon, co-founder of For the Women Foundation; Martha Sazon, President and CEO of GCash; Pebbles Sy, Chief Technology & Operations Officer of GCash; and Robert Gonzales, Chief People Officer of GCash. The event was hosted by renowned broadcast journalist Karen Davila.
