UnionBank and the city government of Taguig have joined forces to bring innovative technology to the city, aiming to enhance citizen services and streamline tax payments. The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing ceremony attended by key officials from both parties.
Mayor Lani Cayetano, City Administrator Atty. Jose Montales, and City Business Permit and Licensing Office Officer-in-Charge Atty. Maria Veloso represented Taguig City, while UnionBank was represented by CFO Manuel Lozano, EVP and Head of Transaction Banking and Platform Development Ramon Duarte, and EVP and Head of Corporate Banking Nino Fajardo.
As part of the collaboration, UnionBank will introduce digital payment solutions for various city services, including tax payments and other fees, utilizing UPAY, the bank’s integrated payments platform that consolidates multiple payment methods.
Mayor Cayetano expressed the city’s commitment to delivering efficient and reliable services to constituents, highlighting the importance of electronic payment acceptance facilities in facilitating convenient transactions. Atty. Veloso emphasized the enhanced taxpayer experience and improved ease of doing business resulting from the partnership.
UnionBank’s CFO, Manuel Lozano, commended Taguig City’s focus on digital solutions and expressed pride in supporting their initiatives. Through UPAY, Taguig City residents will be able to conveniently settle taxes, fees, and other charges online.
Nino Fajardo, EVP and Head of Corporate Banking, emphasized the significance of the MOA signing, describing it as a step towards the future and the city’s transformation through technology. Fajardo emphasized that leveraging digital solutions positively impacts service delivery and enables seamless operations, promoting a more sustainable and efficient future for Taguig City.
The collaboration between UnionBank and Taguig City aligns with UnionBank’s “Tech Up Pilipinas” advocacy, which aims to digitize government units and agencies. UnionBank has previously implemented digital solutions for various government entities, including the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Social Security System, and several local city governments across the Philippines.
