The 11-track release is written and composed by worship leaders from various Christian congregations in the Philippines
WATERWALK RECORDS, a music label that aims to promote faith-based entertainment artists to the new generation of streaming audiences, has recently launched a compilation album filled with inspiring songs of worship and devotion.
The album, called SAMBAHAN, features 11 original Tagalog worship songs, composed and sung by worship leaders from different Christian Churches and congregations. According to Jungee Marcelo, the label’s primary producer and A&R, the concept behind SAMBAHAN was developed through the KONEKOLAB Worship fellowship, which brings together music artists who share similar interests and collaborate in a non-traditional laboratory setting.
“SAMBAHAN is a compilation of original Tagalog worship songs written and composed via the KONEKOLAB Worship fellowship of Church-based songwriters, and interpreted by worship leaders,” Marcelo said.
With SAMBAHAN, WATERWALK RECORDS aims to provide music enthusiasts with an opportunity to experience the beauty and power of worship music that is infused with a message of faith, hope, and love. The label’s efforts to showcase the talent of faith-based entertainment artists are part of its larger goal to appeal to a new generation of streaming audiences who are seeking music that resonates with their personal beliefs and values.
SAMBAHAN is a must-listen for anyone who enjoys uplifting music that speaks to the heart and soul. The album is now available for streaming and download on various music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
WATERWALK Records gave the green light to the SAMBAHAN project after the songs were pitched to them by Marcelo. He considers the compilation album a blessing as it is intended to glorify the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Marcelo plans to release one song every week in the SAMBAHAN album. Initially called “Worship,” Sony Music Philippines head Roslyn Pineda suggested a Filipino title for the project since all the songs are in the local language. They ended up with “SAMBAHAN,” which has three distinct context definitions: an act of worship, communal worship or liturgy, and a place of worship.
Marcelo, who founded KONEKOLAB, explains that SAMBAHAN began when he invited a group of grassroots, Church-based songwriters to collaborate on a worship song in December 2022. The project grew as more work was submitted by participants in the pool, leading Marcelo to filter down the choices to 40 potential songwriters. The Lord provisionally led him to select 40 songwriters and divide them into 10 teams of four.
The late evenings and early mornings of December were dedicated to daily online songwriting collaboration and mentoring sessions, with one team at a time, rotating in shifts,” Marcelo shares with enthusiasm. “By the end of December, the songs were finally completed — praise God for His wisdom and enabling.”
SAMBAHAN showcases a variety of music styles that naturally complement individual and communal preferences. The album features themes that align with the overall concept of worship. Jungee Marcelo, the producer of the album, took charge of the production, while each musician contributed personal inputs to enhance the overall sound texture of the songs. The result is a beautifully crafted worship offering that resonates with listeners.
