Globe, Rotary Club of Makati Business District seal partnership for Hapag Movement
A significant milestone in the initiative was reached on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, when the leading digital solutions platform Globe agreed to a four-year partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) to raise funds for its hunger alleviation program, The Hapag Movement.
The Hapag Movement partnership between Globe and the Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) was sealed at the Globe Tower in BGC, Taguig City. It was led by Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto, Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) Charter President Mache Torres Ackerman, Rachel Harisson, Spokesperson and Hapag Movement Project Manager for RCMBD, along with Kate Bellosillo, General Manager of Kyäni Philippines, a health and wellness company, and renowned chef Jessie Sincioco, President and CEO of The Manna Cuisine Corporation.
Through various initiatives involving the various Rotary Clubs and their district, individual, and corporate members across the nation, RCMBD pledged to raise a total of P10 million for the Hapag Movement. The club has been a long-term fundraising partner of the Hapag Movement because of its dedication. The Hapag Movement received P3 million at the event, the single largest donation it has ever received. This sum includes P1 million from Kyäni, RCMBD, and Ackerman, who gave the money on her own behalf.
Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto stated, “It has been three years since the pandemic struck and disrupted our way of life, including our livelihoods. Millions of Filipinos have experienced involuntary hunger until today as they reel from the impact of the health crisis and recent economic shocks. Our partnership with Rotary comes at a crucial time as we hope to support more Filipinos in dire need. Together, we’ll be able to deliver life-enabling help to our kababayans.”
“The Hapag Movement, led by Globe, is a noble initiative that aims to address a lingering and fundamental problem afflicting thousands of Filipino families. The Rotary’s mission is to advance better health and help alleviate poverty, and so it was such a natural choice for us and our district membership to support,” said Ackerman.
The Rotary chapter will use its corporate and individual members as well as their extensive network to drive the program under the partnership.
“RCMBD will continue to mobilize its expansive network to raise funds for the Hapag Movement. That is our commitment in this partnership. We will do our best and work diligently to get the support that the Hapag Movement needs to help the hungry,” said Harisson.
Bellosillo continued, “As a company that fosters health and wellness, our mission runs parallel with Globe’s Hapag Movement. We are happy to be on board in this project that aims to provide not only supplemental feeding but also livelihood training. This is a sustainable way to address hunger.”
One of the most sought-after Filipino chefs, Chef Jessie, who has prepared meals for Pope John Paul II and world leaders, will serve 80 members and employees at a dinner sponsored by Rotary and Kyani for P3,000 per person. The Hapag Movement will receive half of the dinner’s proceeds.
“As a chef, my mission in life is to give nourishment to people. It is, therefore, a big honor to serve for the Hapag Movement. I’ve prepared tens of thousands of plates throughout my career as a chef. But the most important ones are those that serve to benefit our kababayans who struggle with involuntary hunger. It is, therefore, a great honor to serve the least and the hungry among our dear countrymen through the Hapag Movement,” said Chef Jessie.
Through Eric Le Cain, a former president of the Rotary Club of Makati Business District who is currently based in Cebu, and Ralph Ogui Bon Cambronero, a member of the Rotary Club of Davao, the chapter of the Rotary Club of Makati Business District is also utilizing Rotary members in Cebu and Davao to assist in driving fundraising efforts in the Visayas and Mindanao. They will work together to promote the Hapag Movement in the South.
“We will activate our members to find creative ways to raise funds for the hungry. That is our commitment to the Hapag Movement,” said Harrison.
The Hapag Movement is a unified effort to combat involuntary hunger that is led by Globe. As an estimated 15 million Filipinos continue to suffer from involuntary hunger, it aims to unite the country’s citizens in a collective effort to feed the hungry and provide empowering livelihood training.
The four-year course of the initiative, which aims to benefit 100,000 families, is consistent with Globe’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which emphasizes the importance of infrastructure and innovation as growth and development drivers.
With the assistance of partners Kumu, AMDOCS, and the SM Advantage Card (SMAC), the movement has raised P13.5 million in donations thus far. Through its mobilization partners, the Ayala Foundation, Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and World Vision, it has impacted at least 10,000 families.
