Gateway Gallery art exhibit focuses on wildlife protection

Gateway Gallery, the art museum of Araneta City, is currently hosting the stirring art of Punjabi Artist Jaspreet Kaur in an exhibition called Extinction, which opened last September 10.

The exhibition features incredibly life-like paintings of different endangered species such as birds of prey and big cats such as lions and tigers, and was formally opened by various artists such as Fernando Sena, Pol Mesina, Romeo Gutierrez, Kannan Chockalingam — the First Secretary to the Ambassador of India, Ismael Esber, Gerard Alferez, Carmi Rotoni, and Rapunzel Francisco.

“I chose this theme for my exhibit because of forest degradation and because endangered species are at risk of going extinct in a matter of years. I know that I could not stop it, but I can paint them alive on my canvas, especially tigers and other big wild cats,” Kaur said.

Extinction is Kaur’s third solo show and is a potent display of the artist’s strong conviction towards the protection of wildlife and the preservation of forest habitats. “Humans are killing amazing endangered species to get their fur and destroying their habitat by fires or illegal logging. We need to stop all this madness.”

Kaur is a celebrated artist both in the Philippines and in India. Her art, mainly done through various media such as oil, pastel, acrylic, and charcoal, has been exhibited in various locations in the Philippines and in Punjab.

Extinction is in the Small Room of the Gateway Gallery and will be shown until September 24.

Gateway Gallery is the art museum of Araneta City. It is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. It is located at the 5F of Gateway Tower, Araneta City, Quezon City. Admission to the museum is free.
