Energizing, spunky, and, extremely catchy. These are adjectives that characterize The 12/21’s latest song, “She’s Electric,” even on first listen. This peppy banger is likely to electrify the airwaves and elevate your spirit.
The 12/21 is the newest band on the block. They received various honors, including the 2019 Jim Beam National Talent Search in Canada, after a successful tour in Manila prior to the pandemic. They also performed at the Canadian Music Week in Toronto.
12/21 started off humbly in their grandparents’ home in Manila. After migrating to Winnipeg, Canada, the brothers continued creating music and sharing their love for this craft.
The 12/21 band of brothers consist of Roman Maceda on vocals and guitar while the twins Rico Maceda and Roque Maceda are on the bass/vocals and drums respectively.
“It’s about an outgoing and adventurous girl making her way despite the pandemic happening. With all the chaos happening around her. She can’t wait for the day when all the uncertainties are gone and she can go back to living her best life”. Vocalist, Roman Maceda.
They went with a different sound for this song, but it still catches the spirit of the band. In comparison to their earlier works, “She’s Electric” has a flashier and more pop-like feel to it. The band uses relevant themes of love, people, and relationships as the basis for its lyrics.
Regardless of the fact that they are now based in Canada, they continue to honor their Filipino heritage by making music in Tagalog and English. These brothers remember listening to Filipino artists such as Ely Buendia, Arnel Pineda, Yeng Constantino, Bamboo, and Kamikazee, and now they get to share the stage with them. The band aspires to promote Filipino music on a worldwide platform.
The 12/21 has inked a record label deal with Blacksheep Records and Viva Records in the Philippines. The Maceda brothers are also having a great year, particularly after being included on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Philippines list. 12/21 clearly has a bright future ahead of them; anticipate to hear more of their songs!
