The City of Muntinlupa took a significant step toward sustainable waste management with the launch of the Mobile Materials Recovery Facility (MMRF) in Barangay Sucat. The event saw an overwhelming response from the community, with 300 attendees, including members of the Muntinlupa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), actively participating in the initiative.
During the launch, a total of 2,272.2 kilograms of recyclables were collected, of which 1,623.2 kilograms were sold to a junk shop, while 649 kilograms were transported to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility (ISWMF) at the Vitas Pumping Station in Tondo, Manila for further processing. This initiative underscores the power of community-driven waste segregation and recovery in building a circular waste management system.
A Public-Private Partnership for a Greener Future
The MMRF initiative is a collaborative effort between the MMDA and Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) through its corporate social responsibility arm, Robinsons Land Foundation. This partnership highlights the critical role of public and private sectors in advancing sustainable waste management solutions.
Jay Dela Cuadra, Senior Development Director of Robinsons Logistix and Industrials (RLX), reaffirmed Robinsons Land’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing that initiatives like the MMRF program will drive long-term environmental impact within communities.
Meanwhile, Jhonmarie Caoyong of the MMDA Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) explained the significance of the project, stating:
“This collaboration between MMDA and RLC creates a system that not only promotes recycling but also provides essential goods to the community in exchange for their recyclable materials. Through incentives, education, and partnerships, we’re not just managing waste—we’re transforming it into a sustainable resource that benefits everyone.”
Empowering Communities through Responsible Waste Management
Barangay Sucat residents actively participated in the program, exchanging recyclables for goods provided by RLC and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) through MMDA’s MMRF.
Dela Cuadra further emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in tackling waste challenges:
“Reducing plastic pollution in our waterways requires collective action. By working together, we can inspire communities to adopt best practices that promote environmental responsibility.”
The event also featured interactive learning activities, teaching residents about proper waste segregation, recycling techniques, and the benefits of MMRF in their community’s waste management system.

Vincent Alon of Muntinlupa’s Environmental Sanitation Center reinforced the importance of active community participation:
“The success of this initiative depends on every community member’s commitment to proper waste segregation at home. By increasing awareness and visibility for programs like this, we hope to encourage more people to support the zero-waste movement.”
