During a recent press conference, award-winning director Real Florido shared his thoughts on why films like Everything About My Wife should be accessible to everyone.
“Films should inspire and touch people’s hearts. That’s why we create movies—to tell stories that audiences want to see. And let’s face it, Filipinos are suckers for love. We love feeling giddy, heartbroken, and emotionally invested in the characters we watch on screen. It’s part of our everyday conversations—whether we’re talking about our crush, our almost-lover, or even a complicated third-party situation. It makes us feel alive, which is why storytelling is so important.”
A Love Story Rooted in Reality
As a real-life married couple, Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo shared how their own experiences helped shape their performances.
“Telling a universal love story is important so that audiences can relate to it. For us, it was easier to portray a married couple because we already understand the dynamics—the ups and downs, the arguments, the joy, and the struggles. It felt natural,” said Dennis.
Jennylyn echoed the sentiment, adding:
“Many of the scenes in the film felt familiar to us. But what made it special was how much we enjoyed bringing them to life together. Working with Dennis was such a great experience.”
Meanwhile, Sam Milby reflected on his portrayal of Miguel, the film’s smooth-talking yet flawed character.
“Like Direk Real said, I often shine in roles that have a bit of an edge—characters with a darker side. But Miguel was different. He’s a casanova, a womanizer, and playing him was definitely a challenge. Thankfully, Direk was there to guide me as I stepped out of my comfort zone.”
