As we usher in the Year of the Wooden Snake this Chinese New Year, celebrations are already in full swing. For those eager to join the festivities early, GH Mall, in collaboration with Pawchester and the Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group, is hosting the country’s first-ever Lion Dance Competition with a grand prize of P100,000. The exciting event will take place at the East Wing Atrium on January 19, 2025.
This thrilling competition will feature 10 Lion Dance teams from the Chinese community, each showcasing their unique talents and creativity in this iconic cultural performance. Attendees can expect a high-energy display of acrobatic stunts, vibrant props, and electrifying drum beats—a must-see event for all GH Mall visitors.
The Lion Dance Competition will be divided into five categories: Snake, Centipede, Bridge, Drunken, and Scorpion.
“We’re thrilled to share our culture with everyone and give them the chance to experience the beauty of lion dance performances firsthand,” said Maine Uy, CEO of Pawchester. “Our goal is to make this an annual tradition during Chinese New Year, fostering community spirit and cultural appreciation.”
Gaius Uy, owner of the Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group, added, “The lion dance is a symbol of good fortune, with the drum beats driving away bad luck and welcoming prosperity. We hope to create a stronger sense of community among lion dance performers and introduce Chinese culture to a broader audience.”
This marks the first collaboration between Pawchester and Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group for an event of this scale, with a generous grand prize of P100,000 for the winning team. The first runner-up will receive P80,000, while the second runner-up will take home P50,000.
The Lion Dance Competition will be held at the East Wing Atrium of GH Mall on January 19, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Be sure to mark your calendars and join in the excitement of this unforgettable Chinese New Year celebration!
