Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort (DTLI) officially welcomed the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 14, 2024, at The Mill. Celebrating the harmonious blend of local culture, sustainability, and Dusit’s signature Thai hospitality, the event reflected the resort’s tropical charm and commitment to community connection.
The celebration brought together distinguished guests, including Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation CEO Tomas Lorenzo, Business Development Manager Monica Lorenzo, owner’s representative Bobby Horrigan, newly appointed DTLI General Manager Thanthita Nithimetheesanont (fondly called GM Punch), Cluster General Manager Christoph Kuch of dusitD2 Davao and Dusit Thani Residence Davao, and local officials such as Vincent Magpatoc from the Municipality of Mabini and JP Romero from the Davao de Oro Provincial Tourism Office. Media representatives, in-house guests, and corporate partners also joined the festivities.
Guests were serenaded by the Davao Girls Choir and captivated by the Mabini National High School Special Performing Arts group, showcasing the rich talent and cultural heritage of the Davao region.
In her warm welcome, GM Punch expressed gratitude for the attendees, saying, “Your presence makes this celebration truly magical, reminding us that the heart of the season lies in shared joy and cherished moments together.” Adding to the holiday cheer, Mr. Remil Vincent Magpatoc and Mr. JP Cordovero shared heartfelt holiday messages, emphasizing the spirit of joy and the importance of community partnerships.
A Tree That Tells a Story
The centerpiece of the event was the stunning Christmas tree designed by Annie Lim, a masterpiece that embodied Dusit’s Culture Luxe theme. Decorated with symbolic elements like starfish, representing DTLI’s dedication to marine conservation and its aspirations to make the island a premier diving destination, and handcrafted parols created by the artisans of Davao de Oro, the tree perfectly captured the fusion of international flair and local artistry.
Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation CEO Tomas Lorenzo highlighted the tree’s significance: “This Christmas tree is a perfect blend of international flair, with Dusit’s Thai roots, and local artistry that showcases the essence of the Davao region.”
Stars of Hope: Giving Back to the Community
A key highlight of the evening was the launch of the Stars of Hope program. Guests could purchase handcrafted ornaments to adorn the tree, each representing a personal wish and a contribution to the Mabini Federation of Senior Citizens Association (MAFESCA). Proceeds from the program support the senior citizens of Mabini, underlining DTLI’s commitment to giving back. MAFESCA representative Agustin Roble shared his heartfelt gratitude during the event, followed by the ceremonial hanging of the Stars of Hope ornaments by key figures, symbolizing the start of this meaningful initiative.
Lighting Up the Season
The evening’s most anticipated moment was the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree. CEO Tomas Lorenzo and GM Punch led the countdown, illuminating the tree in a dazzling display of festive lights, symbolizing hope, unity, and generosity. The Davao Girls Choir and Mabini National High School performers returned to the stage with more enchanting performances, enhancing the festive ambiance.
A Celebration of Culture and Connection
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort is more than a holiday tradition. It reflects Dusit’s dedication to creating unforgettable guest experiences while fostering meaningful relationships with the local community. With initiatives like Stars of Hope, DTLI continues to spread goodwill, making the holiday season a time of shared warmth and celebration for all.
